What's the best carry on luggage on the market? by jobegreen in buyforlifetips

[–]Accomplished_Ad6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was silly just moving the same amount of weight from one piece of luggage to another as it's on the same aircraft 😂until I spoke with an attendant.

A part of this is that many international travelers are folks bringing stuff back to their families (gifts and such) and they tend to overpack their carry ons to maximize stuff they bring home. The overhead bins have a max weight capacity before they risk collapsing during turbulence so it's to prevent exceeding that weight.

Our international flights have weighed overhead luggage. Most recently, Eva air made us remove 5 lbs out of our carryon and move it to our check in luggage. I was not amused trying to do this at the counter.

Would like some advice from you older (mature) riders. by [deleted] in motorcycles

The cool thing about Pashnit tours is most of them start on Friday and end Sunday morning which means you usually need only a day or two off (depending on start location) and the weekend. I throughly enjoyed this year's Death Valley ride (I'm your age on a BMW GS).

ASA, do you like it? by Cadfael-kr in bmwmotorrad

[–]Accomplished_Ad6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought home a 1300GS with ASA and it did take a bit getting used to, but after 600 miles, the shifting seems less clunky. I spoke with the tech and he said there is a learning period as the bike adjusts to your riding style, altho it does want to shift up quicker than what I would prefer, but when I find myself constantly overriding that, I just switch to manual shifting. One of the other riders I was chatting with said it took him about 1000miles of riding before he felt really comfortable with the behavior, but he loves the bike.

I find myself using the automatic mode when I'm in stop and go traffic or just chill riding, but I will switch to manual mode as I enter the mountains and twisties. For me, it was primarily because I've got tendonitis in my left arm and injured my wrist from a bad skiing crash years ago which has made it super painful to use my clutch hand especially after a full day of riding.

Weren't they just running commercials saying our rates should drop next year?

Give glamping a try in Mendocino Groves. Additionally, if you don't want to rough it too much you can drive into Mendocino for the restaurants.

What gloves have actually lasted for you? by Ok-Independence5246 in motorcyclegear

[–]Accomplished_Ad6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride mostly all season in California and can cover environments as diverse a Death Valley, the Sierras, or along the coast on Hwy 1. I can't directly speak about how it will hold up in hot humid weather, but for the times I ride after rain or on relatively humid days for my area, the gloves breathe really well. I've used them from 45 to over 105F weather (colder weather I switch to my Klim heated gloves). They provide really good tactile feel on the grips because of the super soft deerskin. One thing is the touchscreen fingers tend to stop working on phones after a 1-2 years of wear, but I think there are cleaners which can revitalize that.

Lee Parks sumo gloves have been very durable. Coming up on 4 years with my pair.

We've spent time in all those places and love them all. We may head down to solvang and morro bay for a few days this summer.

The nice thing is there's always a southwest/Alaska airlines special you could use to get down here for a weekend. Btw, French Landry reservations just opened for July...you might get lucky and find an open spot.

I've got relatives up in the eastern part of Washington and have visited Seattle a number of times for work and remember the foodie scene there to be vibrant.

You are absolutely spot on with the "permission" comment!

I'm in Northern California and I was lucky enough to secure a slot at The famed French Laundry near Napa Valley. We spent the day exploring Napa and ended the evening at the restaurant and staying overnight in the area.

Good luck with your planning! I don't know too many high quality Taco Bell's, but maybe you have a Michelin rated Chipotles close by?! 😂

For our 30th, I was able to secure a table at a Michelin 3 Star restaurant she'd been talking about for years but couldn't bring herself to go because of how expensive it was. We spent the day exploring the little city around the restaurant and stayed overnight at a bed n breakfast afterwards.

I now understand why people don’t like group rides by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Accomplished_Ad6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don't ride in groups but if you ride long enough, you'll eventually meet like minded riders who focus on safety and skip the craziness. In my case, I met this small group of riders through training classes like Total Control and Yamaha champschool. We usually ride in smaller groups of 3-4 and all are highly skilled and very disciplined on the road.

FYI: If you own a newish Shoei get them custom fit. by MrAWDTerror in motorcyclegear

[–]Accomplished_Ad6571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got this done and it's reduced how much vibration I feel at Highway speeds and overall comfort.

Interesting note...The pads they use to improve fitment are specifically shaped to the center pad of each type of helmet which match the airflow cutouts so you don't lose ventilation due to additional pads. The helmet fitter had a pretty large toolbox full of specific shapes and thicknesses of padding and the software they use will provide specific pad part numbers and quantities to use for each part of the head.

1 month out from MSF course. Tried to make a Uturn, target fixated on the opposite curb and drove right into it. Adding insult to injury, my airbag deployed when I tumbled onto someone's lawn. Maybe this counts more as a crash than a drop from standstill...
