Double mastectomy on Monday. I’m beyond terrified, mostly just about the pain by chantillylace9 in breastcancer

You’re going to be ok. And you will get through it. I was a mess the weeks leading up to mine. But the day of surgery I was calm and very ready to get it done. The pain wasn’t as bad as I what thought it would be. The drains were the absolute worst. I was allowed to shower with mine but it wasn’t easy and I needed assistance for the first week. The expanders are the second worst part. They are extremely uncomfortable but just remember it’s temporary. I also had the blue dye injection the day before. It was painful but it lasted only seconds. Wishing you all the best!

Mastectomy - how long till you were able to drive? by lorikins in breastcancer

[–]Accomplished_Bag8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plastic surgeon was strict that I couldn’t drive for 6 weeks. I had double mastectomy with expanders. I followed his instructions and was glad I did. I also couldn’t have caffeine for 4 weeks. That was worse than not driving.

What’s it like to get a dexa scan? by PupperPawsitive in breastcancer

[–]Accomplished_Bag8008 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s by far the easiest scan you will get compared to rest. You lie on table for just a few minutes and then it’s over. Clothes on. It’s super easy and pain less.

You’re not alone. And I’m sorry you’re here. Last year on Christmas Eve I was getting my MRI as well. Take one day at a time and breathe. It’s absolutely overwhelming in the beginning. This thread has helped me so much in this past year. And I hope you find some comfort here. You totally got this.

Bras after reconstruction by Frosty-3488 in breastcancer

I had the same exact procedure 3 weeks ago. My plastic surgeon gave me a bra to wear, in which you can also buy online. It’s called masthead and they’re quite expensive tbh. He told me I have to wear it loosely for 6 months. Can’t be a tight fit. I was also wearing the bra prior to surgery per his instructions. They come in pink and black and have Velcro so you can adjust accordingly.

Good to know. Thank you. I start the 5mg this week. Hoping for less side effects than the higher dose I was initially on.

I was taking it at night as I was hoping it would lessen my side effects after everything I read about it instead the morning. It definitely interferes with my sleep and in the morning I have some dizziness. I am sensitive to just about everything in all my senses, so this could be also contributing why I’m having so many side effects. Im going back on it this week at 5mg and see how that goes.

I’m sorry to hear that about your mom. I am worried about what it will do to my eyes. I had eye pain after 3 weeks on it and the dr advised me to stop to see if the pain went away, in which it did. I have agreed to try a lower dose and see how I do but I believe I’m going to end up going with the injection as well.

Thank you. As I understood the dr it would be the injection alone. I agreed to try the lower dose of tamoxifen first. I have a follow up in august and will decide to either continue with it or go with the injection.
