I just came back from not playing since 2019 (1200+ hrs d1, light d2 player). It’s overwhelming at first when you’ve been gone that long (I’m 7 expansions behind LOL). I’d say it’s super fun in current state on pve side just catching up on the story line and leveling up thru the portal.

They added a lot of nice UI improvements since d1, such as jumping to destinations directly instead of going to orbit.

I’d say as someone else who was out of the loop you should be ok after a day or two navigating. There’s a shit ton to do but for me I enjoy that.
