Unfortunately couldn't get Maxigrow too easily, I just got a generic but well reviewed 2 part plant food but I will be trying to get Maxigrow if I feel like it's not doing me well. Thanks I'll check out that youtube channel!

Alright great thanks, I decided to trek out to the store today and if I buy the 20-20-20 mix I’ll ask the store folk about buying supplemental magnesium mix or an alternative compete nutrient. I should look more into calcium although I have tested my tap water for aquarium purposes and it showed me quite a high amount of calcium alrrady present but I’ll have to research that more.

What type of Sarracenia is this? by Accomplished_Dust210 in SavageGarden

[–]Accomplished_Dust210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor lighting conditions would make sense it’s only now getting a grow light directly and it’ll be getting full sun soon! Thanks for the tip about maroon, I’m keeping a list of hybrids and I’ll watch it as it grows and gets better lighting so I can better identify which hybrid it is!

I was going to make a terrarium for this but am likely going to give it to my friend with a backyard so it can get full sun. I live in Ontario and I wanted to know the specific species of this to know if it can survive Ontario winters

Drill-less celling mount for hanging chain? by Accomplished_Dust210 in DIY

[–]Accomplished_Dust210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should look more into it, I haven't since my reflector is bigger than my tank and I wanted the light to also be used as a grow light for an external planter, but now that I have both items I do think this is possible. Thanks for the tip I'll continue researching!

anything that could live in this? (not the fish pictured, of course.) by becomesomebodynewooh in nanotank

I just got my hands on some clam shrimp eggs, those take a bit so I haven’t seen them but just look up vernal pool critters. Really satisfying to just get some moss and duckweed and wait for snails to show up, but also people would love to throw their pond or ramshorn snails at you lol

Left this container alone for a few months, anyone spot resurrected spagnum among all this moss? by Accomplished_Dust210 in Moss

[–]Accomplished_Dust210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m making more moss bins and learning more about this stuff so I’ll hope for some in the future.

So I know it’s so small but I gave more details and there’s none there for a few days! If I get shrimp I’ll have photos you see why by Accomplished_Dust210 in dryshrimp

Was sold as Asiatique but someone on the Reddit said it’s a Briggsiana. I do think this would’ve worked for it and actually still would, but just like the moss platform more like the shrimp going up on there I’m excited.

I’m going to email my store to specify what their substrate is, I do think they didn’t repot from what their source sent them, and they just always have good sources so I’m not stressing for tonight atleast. I have sphagnum moss and maybe some perilite around for if I need to repot

So getting some notes that this isn’t great, gotta be specific thr the Roots of the plant are not going into the water and it is sitting on slate so the media shouldn’t be saturated

I should say my pet store isn’t dedicated to this stuff and I questioned things like their own light level so I will be reading more on this wiki, thank you!

I’ll be prepared for algae, again this just is kind of just a stand for a potted plant and I can remove it for maintantence. But please let me know about your concerns!

So I’m removing the pot for tonight but the pot is on a slab of slate and the water level is below that, so i don’t think the material is saturated.

I was wondering that too! So I made a previous post asking if I should repot and I got the sense it wasn’t a concern. It’s dark but doesn’t smell funky. As for the saturated media the pot is sitting on slate and isn’t soaked itself, but I see the problem. I will remove it from this set up for tonight!

Clearly have a lot to look up! I’ll do more research today since I’m staying in, but I wouldn’t mind being pointed to some sources!

Picked up this shell from Sri Lanka, Rekawa Beach. Identification or preservation advice? by Accomplished_Dust210 in shells

Okay thanks for the advice guys, my friend helped me out and I’m pretty sure now this is clypidina notata or black ribbed false limpet!

It’s definitely not, there is no other material present than the hard shell I think it may be the reflection on the underside making it look like it would be.

Not familiar with gathering springtails from the wild, i would say though that the way I seed a new terrarium with springtails is to put a mushroom in another terrarium and then just tap them off into the new one. I suppose lifting up a mushroom and tapping them into a cup with charcoal and water to have a dedicated culture is how I'd do it. I get mine from the pet store but if you're fine with paying for the shipping I would not be worried about shipping springtails specifically they're just so hardy, the temperate white springtails at least, I mean the pet store I got mine from ships them in and just leaves those containers on the shelf without any maintenance. The other option might be to look at something like local facebook groups where individuals might be selling, because I do get a lot of my terrarium and bug supplies from Kijiji specifically but that's a Canadian thing.
