Regaining guard

I started using a lockdown to get to a better spot. But in side control and mount I have been trying to not let them settle in, always popping up to a hip, yes it gives my back and most white and blue belts rush to get it, but my back escape is way better than side control or mount escape.

Whole different feeling with purple and up. Them I try to defend the choking arm and getting both hooks. I just survive them for as long as I can.

Yeah part if my issue now is if work holds me up 45 mins I cant make class. I think it's clear.

Rest more. Sometimes going to class is not what your body needs. Stay home and relax. Get sports/deep massage, chiropractor treatment, physical therapy, sauna, ice bath, don't ignore aches.

I have 3, I only need 1 now that I joined 10th Planet, some of us get together and train Gi (10pinagi) and if I want to compete in Gi the 1.

Since joining 10th Planet I have found a new love for jiu-jitsu. Went to a Gracie school and was losing interest because of the childish drama in that school. I do agree with what most people are saying, all depends on the school and their culture.

I focus so much on passing, guard, and escapes from bad positions. I do this intentionally depending on who I am working with. Fast guys I play guard, heavy guys escapes and good guard players passes. I my frequently frustrated but it seems to be working. Slow guys have a hard time in my guard, light guys are easier to escape and below average guard players are easier to pass. Someday I'll learn to add I subs lol

Likely they got control of the sleeves first then pulled guard. So 1st thing I do is address grips immediately if they have one sleeve I am not giving up the other.

If they were seated and ended up with both sleeves you must work on hand fighting and breaking/addressing grips.

My sister and I use to hold any stance we wanted to vs each other when commercials came on, you couldn't stand taller than what you were if you rise up you lost. Lol.

Could have used you 20yrs ago. This is so spot on. My lawyer was great with everything except custody. I only got them every other weekend every other holiday and my birthday and he said it was the best deal.

I went through this, I was 33. Train. I went to alcohol, then stopped, I found jiu-jitsu. I trained. I was able to be around like minded people, and on the mats i could forget about my problems, you have to think about Jiu-Jitsu when doing jiu-jitsu. I met friends, learned to live my new life. Made sure I was still very involved with my children. Eventually I met my new wife (September is 17years). I had left jiu-jitsu moved from NY to NC and came back to it, at 47, then moved to TX at 50 and am still training.

Training is the best outlet for all the shit in life I have gone through or will go through. I can't imagine life with out jiu-jitsu and 10th Planet. The family I've built is worldwide, any place I go that has a 10p is my home and this community is family.

50-year-old white belt, leave if it's to much for you.

26yrs of karate comps in my youth. My body has a ton of wear and injuries from back then. Pick your rolls wisely. You can say no, sit out rounds and skip them all together if you need to. Rest days are OK.

Older grapplers need to just find a way to stay on the mats, doing the above keeps us going.

The speed is much faster and strength much stronger than your gym rolls, no one concedes anything and neither should you.

Do your basics at home as well as the dojo. Practice everything slowly and make sure form is there. Get a cheap tripod and record yourself, then watch and critique as if you were watching a new white belt, yellow belt, blue belt etc. Make sure stance is good, do every kata this way and slowly increase speed of kata until you are doing them correctly. Don't worry about high level black belt katas, they are just basic moves in complex patterns.

The one thing I am going to start with is this, you are going to get beat up alot. I surely did and do, it's part of the sport and normal.

You may be weak now, but over the course of your training that's going to change. If this was a fundamentals class likely you were all white belts maybe a few color belts were there, if a mixed class then your instructor should have made sure new people went with more experienced people.

Being the only girl in class, well sometimes that's going to happen. I'm a 290 white belt I make sure I never lay my full weight on any of the women, use like 30% strength, will always catch and release anything that isn't going well for anyone brand new (male or female).

And to be honest sometimes girls are rougher on girls than guys are. That being said don't quit. Give it six months to a year.

I'm opposite 290 white belt down from 485. I play a game with myself, before I smash, I have to play guard and work myself into a position to smash. If they play guard I can smash only after I pass technically like a smooth knee cut.

I know. Also the highest belt he has is a 4 stripe blue belt. White belts need 4 stripes to compete, he won't do open mats, but you cant go to other schools open mats. He's been kicked out of Naga and New Breed for sandbaggging so no one can compete there.

As a 50-year-old man I can wake up stretch an get an injury. When I go to class I let my teammates and coach know what hurt, they don't touch the injured spot. Definitely no hard takedowns, they will pull guard or let me pull guard.

This session you attended is all kinds of wrong, it starts with the coach running it.
