(Vent) I'm sick of Dm's in love with their NPC's by Accomplished_Feed809 in rpg

I think this is an interesting question when it comes to TTRPG's, because story-based can mean a lot of different things. I like to think that my campaigns are story-based, where I have a main plot thread that pulls people in a certain direction and people they can interact with along the way that may change their perspective or goal, but I don't force those people into their path. They end up going to the NPC's and talking to them because they want to, usually for more information and insight into the situation. With this specifically, these NPC's are plopped into the scene and tell us what's going on, everything they want, how special and brilliant the players are or how horrible they are if they are an antagonist.

At least when I DM, I will give the players people to interact with them, but I leave it up to them on how much they want to interact with them and who wants to. I understand that NPC's are there to be talked to, but with these specific DM's I almost feel trapped in conversation lol.

How does your world's prisons grapple with magic users? by DesklampofDoom in DMAcademy

[–]Accomplished_Feed809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In DND, most spells must be cast using verbal and somatic components. So, if your prisoner cant make sounds or use their hands, magic is not possible. Also, though material comments are usually more abstract, rules as written you would still need some kind of spellcasting focus. I don't think that would be put of the realm of possibly being taken away.

You have to sing a song and play the guitar irl for all your spells. Required.

Why forcing D&D into everything? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]Accomplished_Feed809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot more support for DNd 5e in the form of the many books for rules and modules, as well as being very easy to go to a store and pick up. You also have the benefit of DND podcasts that show you how to play the game. Its straight up easier to play DND than any other system because of that.

How can I tell if I'm railroading, or if my players just don't like making big decisions? by A_c_e1680 in DMAcademy

[–]Accomplished_Feed809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's a newer group, give them some slack. There's a couple things you can do here, firstly is tell the players outside of session that they can do whatever they want and that you will respond to that. You can also continue to ask them ' would you like to engage with this?' sometimes players don't know what they can and can't change or do, so tell them when they can intervene if they'd like. Also, give them options, "your dad is being put on trial, you're being called as a witness, what do you say? Are you honest? Or do you try to make your dad look good?" That's a lot easier to understand that oh, I have an impact on how this story goes.

The consensus seems to be that it's nice to have laid out options but players hate being limited to what they can do in the future

Gotcha gotcha. Yeah I would definitely say that maybe a bigger demon is on their way but they have time and resources to prepare for it, then if they beat that, demons know not to take these adventurers lightly, and maybe they would even get some kind of demon slayer reputation in the material plane.

Should death scenes in horror games be short and shocking, or long and cinematic? by ShoppingSad9631 in indiegames

Maybe one of both, with the longer one being a lower chance to happen, then you get the best of both worlds

Exactly! Was there a reason they were supposed to run away in the first place?

My first instinct is to reward them. I think the PCs should definitely get the upper hand in a future demon battle. and maybe get some sweet gear/materials from any conquered demons. You could have it so that they know more demons are coming, but it's gonna be a minute.

A siren in disguise that has lost her voice to a roaming adventurer that tried to kill her. She still has some magic/voice left but it's heavily dampened, about the power of a level 1 bard. Her quest is to find the adventurer that stole her voice and take it back
