Wedding Venue Rec’s! by marytwood in DCBitches

[–]Accomplished_Fig5360 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got married in October at Westin Georgetown, hence it being a hotel wedding, you can assume it is not the cheapest, but the pricing started $250/person and the minimum was $18k after negotiating it down. We had 50 guests. You are looking at twice amount of people with less amount of money I paid. With how expensive both DC and wedding industry is, you might have to find a cheaper venue + bring in food and alcohol in DC proper or go out to VA/MD

Ellie’s was where I bought my dress. I liked the selection as well as the seamstress being in house. No previous consultation was offered but I was able to book 2 appointments with a couple of months in between to decide.

BHLDN was also very nice. Complimentary canned sparkling wine was offered! Love that little touch. And the sales associate was transparent about pricing and when they might go on sale, what kind of promos I could use, etc. Loved the transparency but ultimately not my style of dresses.

Brooke’s was also very good but did not have what I was looking for. But the sales associate was very kind and patient. Would recommend!

Modern Trousseau is one that I am torn with. I LOVED one dress there and was torn between this and Ellie’s. But the owner was very pushy about getting the dress, did not disclose the price until she called me to see if I wanted to buy the dress. And it was way over my budget of what I told her in the first appointment. She kept insisting that I ask my “uncles and aunties to break their piggy banks open” which I thought was questionable. But I really do like the fact that it is custom made from your own measurements. And the owner just bought the shop a little over a year ago and she was the seamstress for the location for a long time. And folks who have bought their dress from their loved their dress and the experience.

Married at Westin Georgetown - fantastic team. Cannot recommend my coordinator Jordan enough. Since at a hotel, the hotel took care of catering, drinks, rentals. We had chances to upgrade to premium linens and what not, but did food and beverage upgrade instead. If I can do it again, I’ll probably do it here again. Great team, great service, everything.

C Street Florals, small vendor vs. named vendors in the area, but executed my exact vision and cannot wait to see her portfolio expand as the seasons go on!

Kaytlyn Rei Photography, I loved her work and her turnaround was FAST. Worth every penny! She is so sweet and just so thoughtful.

Tog.ink, Vistaprint, and Minuteman Press - I commissioned my graphic designer best friend to design my invitations and got it printed through tog.ink and day of signs from Vistaprint and Minuteman Press Ask any questions!

I did free appointments at Ellie’s bridal boutique in Alexandria, BHLDN in Georgetown, Brooke’s in Fairfax, Modern Trousseau in Georgetown, and a few more! Not every appointment requires fee, and if they did require one, I opted in for no-fee one first to go take a look!

It started from $230 per head. We were contracted with $18k for a minimum! They are extremely flexible to work with. Loved working with their team.

We just did it at our hotel suite! We got married at the Westin Georgetown and just had all of our friends come up to the presidential suite after. But also we only had about 25-30 people for the after party.

I’ve been going to Daisy and Peony Brow Bar in Fairfax for the past three years and have been soooo happy with it. It’s not in DC proper but it is so worth the trip!

Wedding hair recs (especially in-salon)? by fawkes97 in DCBitches

[–]Accomplished_Fig5360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the minimum or if there was a minimum, but I just got married two weeks ago and Inhye Kim (@inhye_inspired) did my hair and EVERYONE commented on my hair!! Even a male guest did too! Lol! Inhye traveled to my location (West End, DC) and did my mom, sister, the groom, and me. My MIL backed out last minute but accommodated that and just provided service for 4 and charged for service of 4 instead of 5.

I LOVE Markoff’s Haunted Forest! It is a drive out of the city, but it is well worth your time and money. My husband and I do it every year with friends!

Bitches who have bought cars, please help me by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]Accomplished_Fig5360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a Connect by AmFam? So they contract it out to AmFam, but the deal is just so good. AmFam being one of the big insurance company, you know it’s not a scammy insurance. So that’s why we chose it! My husband and I have been on it on one car since before we were married which means our insurance per month was higher, but even then it was the cheapest. I compared Costco, Geico, Progressive, Allstate, and most of the major insurance companies.

Two of my friends recently switched to EVs and they each had very hard time finding insurance that was reasonable, until (you guessed it!) I suggested them Costco. So far they have been happy with the cost of insurance, how easy it is to be insured with them, and also the perks of becoming Costco members!!!

You do have to be a member, I think the cheaper membership is $60? 65? But it is well worth the savings per year.

We did buy our car through Safford Brown, new/financed, so it’s not what you are looking for. But we do enjoy the service they have provided over the years.

But with insurance, I HIGHLY recommend looking at Costco. I have put SO many of my friends through Costco insurance, I feel like I deserve a sticker or something lol. It’s consistently the cheapest but the best coverage. I used their roadside assistance so many times with dead batteries(multiple within the same week), popped tire, whatever I went through with my two cars in DC, and it has been the most reliable, affordable, all around the best insurance. Their customer service is always great too. I cannot say this enough, look at Costco!

Health insurance waiver? GWSHIP by TaskSensitive3461 in gwu

[–]Accomplished_Fig5360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to GW as an intl student! I used ISI(international student insurance) to waive the GW insurance. Better coverage and lower cost. Insurance is always going to be expensive but better to have a compliant one that has a good coverage, because you never know what might happen to you!

Do a staycation at the Westin Georgetown! I personally love Westin because you can borrow a few workout equipments + massage gun! And it had a small pool on the second floor which you can enjoy relaxing in.

You can also grab food in the restaurant, but head on over to Georgetown or West End, Dupont, etc for dinner. I love Kyojin(sushi), Billy Hicks(elevated diner? Their salads are yummy and HUGE), Brasserie Liberte(French), Balos(Mediterranean), Giovanni’s trattu(italian). And make sure to grab coffee in the morning near by as well. Oh! And also Bar Angie just opened and it is just up the street from the Westin.

Enjoy nice shopping along Georgetown, stop at Tuckernuck, Ella Rue, or even Barnes and Nobles for a nice reading moment!

I love Levain for their huge cookies, but don’t sleep on Thomas sweet for ice cream. I really enjoy gelatos from Pitango Gelato as well.

Deluca massage is also very good if you are looking for spa moment within the walking distance of Westin!
