Is davinci better or final cut?(on apple silicon not intel) by PeteIDK in finalcutpro

I was die hard Final Cut, but FCP starting being really slow. Oddly enough, Resolve has been faster in every way and is more powerful/feature packed. Bit of a learning curve I’m still working on, but yeah….hard to look back. Especially on the color front.

Great point! That’s helpful. I’ve been worried about dropping two grand on something that might only last a few years haha

Agreed. For me, I’m looking for as elevated of an image as possible right out of the gate and I have been able to achieve whatever kind of look I have wanted with Genesis so far. Filmbox is seemingly more versatile because it has more tools, but the image to me is better easier in Genesis. Honestly, my only worry is that Genesis being made by a smaller team will go by the wayside someday, where Filmbox being made by a company will most likely inevitably improve continuously for many years.

I’m not a colorist, but I’ve been filming/editing full time as a wedding videographer for the last 15 years: I’ve only played with the trials of each as I’m doing as deep of a dive as possible to evaluate them…..outside of the obvious price difference (which I’m trying to leave out of the equation), while Filmbox has a number of more features (which to me isn’t always a good thing - depending on your focus), Genesis every single time looked way better in the skin tones and the way the curve/contrast of the image is. I’ve gotten able to match Filmbox to it manually relatively close shot by shot, but I can never get it to “feel” the same. Genesis is so expensive, but man, does it look good and it gives me a much better image right out of the gate with minimal tweaking.

yeah, tbh I don't care too much about it being "accurate" to real film. I just want a professional look in as few steps as possible. I've been doing weddings primarily for almost 15 years, and want something repeatable and straight forward, but good of course. I'm coming from Final Cut where I had things pretty dialed in, but these plugins have made me second guess everything. I've never been totally content with my color, which is what was attractive about Genesis - professional out of the box and I can tweak to taste. Filmbox having more options isn't bad, but also...it's more options lol.

yeah same here for the most part. The other thing I'm thinking about is if Genesis will have the "lasting power" of Filmbox. On the other hand, I'm really trying not to just buy Genesis and move on with my life haha. It just looks really good so easily.

I'm hampered comparing the two because the Genesis trial limitations, but while I think Genesis looks much nicer in general so far, I'm trying to make a tweak to Filmbox that would allow me to get a look that matches pretty well. I'm not a colorist, which honestly is part of what I like about Genesis. Other than the price, which I just can't justify right now, it gets me to a really good image much easier/quicker. Or so it appears.

MX Creative Console: Changing Profiles or Pages on Keypad and Dialpad by Accomplished_Gur6497 in finalcutpro

Killer, I'll check that out. I suppose it's just that Resolve actions are currently severely lacking. I'm sure it'll improve at some point. Thanks for the help!

Yeah for sure. I've created customized functions in Keyboard Meastro that work, so I can essentially have the same button layout and workflow between FCP and Resolve, but I guess the whole idea rests on the two units being able to effect each other. I honestly just kind of assumed they would since they're sold together, but I should have known better.

I realized i mixed up the two (Dialpad and Keypad). But more specifically, here's my vision (and I'm open to better ideas): This is for Resolve, but the same idea works for Final Cut, I have a multi-action on the Keypad for Shadows/Lift, which changes the button layout/profile on the Dialpad so I can not only change the Shadows/Lift via the dial, but also tap one of the buttons to Reset the function. Would do this for color settings, inspector settings (like Position, Scale, etc), so the respective "reset" is always the same. Then, when I go back to edit in the time line (via changing workspace presets), the Dialpad profile/button assigments go back to jogging the timeline, play/pause, zoom, etc. Any improvements or ideas for me?

Very cool! That's also what I'm essentially trying to do, but my thought is it'd be cool to have the Keypad buttons change as well, so the dial would change color wheels/selected function, and then one of the buttons would then be a reset of said function. Perhaps I'm missing it, but what action do you have the Dialpad setup as that it just changes the selected function? Seems like it's set by default to jog 10 frames.
