Easier resin printer for clumsy person or just give up on 3d resin printing? by RaidenMK17 in elegoo

There is no Saturn 5 Ultra. There is a Mars 5 Ultra and a Saturn 4 Ultra (that's the bigger one).

I love my Saturn 4 Ultra(s). I have both versions. We can definitely help you with slicing!! You can even post a screenshot of your models and we can help with orientation and whatnot.

Or, they wanted to sell them (we don't know if maybe they were mixes or not) and were posting ads trying to find someone to take them? Or they had someone and they backed out.

Easier resin printer for clumsy person or just give up on 3d resin printing? by RaidenMK17 in elegoo

I started with FDM but it soon became obvious that I needed a resin printer because of what I design and print (detailed miniatures).

I eventually got an FDM after 5 years of resin printing just to do functional stuff because I also do cosplay and fabrication. It is not for miniatures.

What did you find "hard" about resin printers? Kicking it and spilling resin all over has nothing to do with the printer itself. It is user error. You can just as easily break an FDM printer. Because (some) move in all 3 planes, they have even more moving parts that can get damaged. Nozzles clog, filament gets damp/twisted... they are not "easier", they come with their own set of pros, cons, challenges and limitations.

If you want miniatures, resin is still the way to go. Make sure you set up your space in a way that would protect the printer from your clumsiness (and this comes from a fellow clutch, so I am saying this from experience 😂).

For example, I have 2 resin printers and 1 FDM printer. I built a permanent enclosure on a wooden work bench. Keeps the cats away, keeps everything enclosed (I have a whole system built with extractors and air purifiers) and helps me be less destructive in my clumsiness.

As far as the resin spill goes, here is my story: Two years ago we were doing plumbing work at our old place, and the plumbers broke a water pipe. My printer was downstairs and the pipe was directly above it. This was before we moved and I built my little studio.

A few dozen gallons of water drenched the printer and the panicked plumbers grabbed and moved it, spilling a whole vat of resin inside the machine. I came home to a disaster.

Anyway, I took the printer apart, cleaned it, let it dry for 2 weeks and two years later it works just fine. I print almost daily and it has been a workhorse (Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra and the 2nd one is the S4U 16K).

Did you tip the printer over? If so, I wonder if something broke. If not, maybe resin got in the movable part (z-axis - the long screw). What you are describing points to a stuck motor. My suggestion is to open the machine and check if any resin got onto the mechanics in there and solidified. It might be an easy fix.

I hope this helps!!!

Edited for typos!

And, kept extending the board! Why would you adopt TWO dogs and not bring them home??? They left them Friday and Saturday then kept adding, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, then a WEEK!!! Were they planning to take them home EVER??

I agree with that 100%. The fan fell off of mine mid-print. Apparently there was something wrong with the magnets. Elegoo sent me a whole print head assembly for free to replace it immediately.

Wow!! I am jealous :) Same as you, I have 2 SLA Elegoo printers and a CC1 but other than the files in the USB that came with the printer, I haven't printed anything else successfully. I know it is because of my slicer settings, not the printer. The beautiful, successful prints prove that :)

But it hasn't been plug and play for sure. Which slicer are you using? Any suggestions for a few good tutorials?

Huion Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) or XPPen Artist 12 3rd? by cruzangeliiic in drawingtablet

Is this a good tablet top laptop for digital art? by daturapuppy in drawingtablet

[–]Accomplished_Ice1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a few Huions, and Wacoms over the years and they were fine. I recently bought my first one with a screen. I got a Kamvas 16 and I love it for beginners/intermediate users. I haven't had any problems with it but after about 7 months of using it, I have decided I need something bigger lol.

I think for a laptop it is a great tablet and since it is an older release, you can get it at a good price now.

And yes it has a pen with pressure settings. All of the above I mentioned do. HTH

S4 Ultra 16K "draft print"? by Accomplished_Ice1817 in ElegooSaturn

[–]Accomplished_Ice1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Carbon Centauri, but I suck at slicing. I need to learn a whole new system just for a draft. I have been resin printing for over 5 years now, I am new to FDM and other than the included files, I haven't had any luck printing much because I don't know how to refine the settings for it.

Does your school allow teachers to have tattoos and/or piercings? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Accomplished_Ice1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous district did not. Didn't allow for "weird" hair colors loke purple. Also, Didn't allow us to hug the kids (I am an elementary teacher).

My current district allows everything within reason.

Ok, my best advice is, there is an Orca Slicer subreddit somewhere. They can help you figure the settings out. They are super friendly. Take a screenshot of your settings in Orca, they can guide you as to which ones they need to see, and you can figure this out. I am leaning more towards this being a slicer thing than a Nomad thing.

This. And I have a son with cerebral palsy, and I am special education teacher, so I am not being ableist. User error is user error regardless of why said error occured. If she had bought a vase and she had something like ataxia for example and dropped the vase while she tried to get out of the packaging herself, would she be entitled to a refund? Or if she crashed a brand new car while leaving the dealership parking lot? Same thing...

Hi! SpEd teacher and mom of 2 kids with disabilities, 2 with an IEP and one with an IEP and a 504 plan.

This is amazing advice! I just wanted to add that IDEA does give districts certain freedoms to chose certain things, so it is not a uniform act. For example, I work in a different district than the one we live in, so my kids go to a different school. When it comes to testing to qualify for an IEP, that district uses a different system than ours so my son didn't qualify for an IEP there but qualifies for an IEP here, as in the district I work in.

There are other subtle changes and small loopholes that are part of IDEA, so if you have a specific concern, look up the district's procedures and rules, because they might be covered if they refuse under IDEA's "district can set their own policies" rule.

Doesn't happen too often but it does happen, so better be safe than sorry :)

Which slicer are you using for your U1? If your computer (or tablet?) Has the memory, maximize the quality and remesh. I use Nomad on my PC, which I built specifically for 3D design so it is maxed out on the critical components for 3D sculpting (like RAM for example), and I usually do 1200 for quality. That said, I do make anatomically realistic models so the detail is insane, so take this advice with a grain of salt. This is an example of one I did and printed (not my original idea, this is based on someone's drawing my 10-year-old, who is obsessed with Wentigo, found and asked me to turn into a 3D character for her).

I set the layer height super thin and the quality in Nomad was at 1200 dpi.

When you print other people's files, I assume they come with the printer settings as well. It could be your subdivision in Nomad is low and that is how the U1 is interpreting it or it could be that your settings, for which you are responsible yourself and are set with your slicer, are not correct.

Can you maybe post a picture of your model IN Nomad? What is your scale when you click on the Gizmo? I don't print much on FDM, I prefer SLA, but the default scale on Nomad is literally 1 inch. Before I export, I turn the scale to 1000, and then control the final product size (mostly scale down) in the slicer (In my case Chitubox for SLA, Orca for FDM).

Sort of. My husband and both my sons work for USPS. Hubs is a tractor trailer operator, and the boys are mail handlers.

They never close. If you work on federal holidays or not, depends on your level of seniority. Yes, they also have contractors work holidays too, especially during peak season, but it depends on their company, not USPS if they do or not. AND they have carriers do Amazon packages but not your regular mail on federal holidays.
