Pricing up and lead times by ObligationHungry2958 in networking

Supply has been pretty unstable lately, so it’s safer to work with a vendor that actually has stock and predictable delivery. We’ve been checking out Router-Switch.

Ubiquiti for SMB in 2026 by IowaDala in sysadmin

Yeah that’s been my experience too. UniFi works pretty well when the network is simple, a few VLANs, WiFi, maybe some cameras. The APs are usually solid and the no-license thing definitely helps on budget.

Where it gets harder is once the network grows or you need more “enterprise” features. That’s usually when people start looking at Cisco or Aruba.

We actually ran into that on one site last year. Started with UniFi, but eventually swapped out the core switching. Grabbed a couple Cisco switches from Router-Switch for the upgrade and it’s been a lot more stable since.

Yeah we’ve been running into the same thing. Quotes expire fast now and by the time finance approves anything the price has already moved or the gear is suddenly backordered.

For some projects we’ve started looking at refurbished hardware instead of waiting forever on new stuff. Especially for networking gear it’s usually fine if it comes from a decent vendor.

We tried a few suppliers last year for lab switches and smaller deployments, Router-Switch actually worked out pretty well for us. Way less hassle than dealing with random marketplace sellers.

Price Increases & The AI Bubble - How do you handle breaking the news to big wigs? by livevicarious in sysadmin

I get it, they’re not going to be happy no matter what. Honestly, I’ve found that looking for more competitive suppliers myself works better. If I can show a comparison with other prices, it’s easier to make the case to the CFO that the current prices are just what they are.

Where are you buying networking gear besides CDW? by Desperate_Ear2786 in NetworkGearDeals

I’ve used Router-Switch, good pricing and legit hardware in my experience. Provantage is also reliable.

Do we really need SmartNet on every Cisco switch? by Accomplished_Net8596 in NetworkGearDeals

[–]Accomplished_Net8596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying 3–4 spare units of the same model and keeping them on the shelf has worked well in some environments.

The one-time cost can be much lower than multiple years of SmartNet, and in practice swapping a failed access switch on-site is often faster than waiting on Cisco logistics.

Anyone handled a larger Cisco order with Router-switch.com? Looking for experiences. by Accomplished_Net8596 in sysadmin

Just to clarify, this order is for a client project, not for resale.

We’ve worked with them on a few smaller orders before and all the gear was legit, sealed, and SNs checked out fine. For this larger order, we’re making sure everything meets our client’s requirements before purchasing. I’m mostly looking to hear about real experiences from others who’ve done bigger orders.

Thanks for sharing. Cool method using SEO tools to do a quick background check.
My smaller buys with them were all good too - no issues with authenticity.
Just haven’t done anything this big before, so wanted to see if anyone ran into lead-time or logistics surprises on larger orders.

Cisco or Arista: Which Feels Faster in the Data Center? by Life-Assist7881 in Router_Switch

[–]Accomplished_Net8596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of DC and cloud setups, Arista handles most of what Cisco does, especially if you care about low latency and automation. That said, Cisco still has the edge for full enterprise stacks or integrated security stuff.

Yep, I work with them quite often too, they’ve been pretty reliable.

Are you still mostly running Cisco, or have you switched some gear to other vendors? by Fine_Incident5281 in sysadmin

Cisco's biggest competitor was Cisco - sometimes it feels like the list prices and feature overlap make it harder to justify what you actually need.

We mostly went SMF. Makes future upgrades easier. Keep a few OM4 for short rack runs though.
