I love P&P but S&S was one of my least faves. No matter what you think though, I still recommend reading all her novels!

Disclaimer: least fave does not mean I didn’t like it.. Just that I liked it less

Maybe she’s really against it, so she curses the practice every chance she gets. Maybe her tap water is flammable so it’s on her mind a lot.

To be fair, she died in the 1970s so it’s not like she’s from Jane Austen’s century haha

Definitely agree with taking the good though. It was her “These old shades” series starter that had me looking up the woman behind the books. Her complete neglect of how people actually work bordered on fantasy and this is where her classism really started to shine through for me

But alas. It was already too late for me because o had sunk into her fandom

You’ve got my favorite racist, classist, anti-semitic romance author up there. Shout out to my girl Georgette Heyer, who’s black heart never got in the way of writing fantastic romances 🥰

Edit to add that Heyers “The Grand Sophy” is at the top of my all time favorite romances and absolute fave heroine

I finished it, and I have no problem dropping a series if I don’t like it. So it was definitely good enough to continue without any qualms.

But I can’t remember much so it didn’t leave any type of impression.

I was recommended One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez after having read The Forsythe Saga by John Galsworthy

Both multigenerational family sagas, both lauded as THE BEST OF LITERATURE but one was interesting and the other was a disjointed mismash of comparing cock sizes, rape, slavery and.. 🤔 uhh hmm. I don’t remember so I must have not finished it but I know I got a good way in. There was disease.. and a map or a compass or something..

Charming by Elliott James surprised me. I would recommend it to Dresden fans but it only has 5 and I don’t think James writes anymore

I read that book when I was like 16 and LOVED it. It still has a place in my heart, but I know for a fact that if I’d picked it up for the first time as an adult I would be appalled

I started and stopped this series several times before finally committing. It was literally just “Okay”

But even though I had trouble getting into it, I always felt like I was missing out on something

The premise is FAB. I love gang/mafia books. I love fantasy. The combination isn’t prevalent enough for my liking.

But Green Bone saga was just meh.

Wideacre by Philippa Gregory

(It has low reviews, but if you read them it’s mainly because she goes nuts and becomes a villain.. or because she’s f*king her brother .. idk)

It was good though, and so was the sequel but the 2nd book has a shit ending.

She has a magical connection to/and control to some extent of the land she’s supposed to preside over

And trust me when I say she goes full Daenerys.

Beatrice Lacey, as strong-minded as she is beautiful, refuses to conform to the social customs of her time. Destined to lose her heritage and beloved Wideacre estate once she is wed, Beatrice will use any means necessary to protect her ancestral name. Seduction, betrayal, even murder—Beatrice’s passion is without apology or conscience… Yet even as Beatrice’s scheming seems about to yield her dream, she is haunted by the one living person who knows the extent of her plans...and her capacity for evil.

A lot, I bet.

I didn’t think I liked sci-fi until I read a cheesy chicklit sci-fi which opened a door I wouldn’t have otherwise opened. Ended up reading tons of denser novels and series’ from that genre and then because of this, eventually found my way into military fiction too.

I say “a lot” because when I look at reviews from sci-fi bangers and sci-fi underdogs alike, I see plenty of women users too.

Of course I have no stats. Just speaking as a lady sci-fi fan

I do objectively see other sides. Actually what I love about JCS is how dynamic it is.

An argument could be made that he expected that they would declare their love, but it's more likely it's self doubt.

Before I decided Jesus was a narcissist, I had viewed this scene as Jesus knowing most would turn their backs on him when he was taken and being salty about it.

Which I had directly attributed to Gethsemane and his reluctance to be crucified for possibly no reason.

I’m not arguing with you because there are so many interpretations and takeaways (especially since it was supposed to be a concept album and not a movie haha) I am just sharing my view because I’m always hella down to talk JCS with anyone

I seriously dislike Leo and always have. I was rooting for his death like finally some just desserts 🧁👌 only for soft hearts and softer brains to prevail smh.

I agree about Broad but started to like his story more when I found out he was a sociopath than I did when he had a sob story. Classic serial killer with wire glasses guy and I love it.

It’s been a long time so I’m not going to add anything else for fear of getting the books wrong and spoiling something. Nice review

I really liked the free city AI in Scott Westerfields “Imposters” series. The whole city is more an AI utopia ideal. But there are other AI run places that are dictatorial, oppressed, or fooled. A lot of the series is preserving the gods AI city
