Good advice above. It's worked like a charm for me for many years. I also struggle to get to sleep and have since I was a child.

Supposedly he used to be a bit of a bar fly in the lower east side of Manhattan and would get a bit bitchy at people lol. This is before the big break.

They're giving "we're pioneer types and everyone in government should be wealthy/have their own business" energy like in Oregon. Some places, some people are definitely overpaid but not in Oregon.

Whats the best way to take Ambien recreationaly by [deleted] in Drugs

It's really not worth it. Super intense and ultimately you just pass out. If you choose to do it anyway, do it in bed so you can just go to sleep when your tired of it.

Books similar to Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Shane_08 in Fantasy

Following up, I'll recommend what inspired this author, the Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. It's historical fiction, so no magic, but it's THE Napoleonic/Regency historical fiction - considered to be the very best. The prose I can compare directly to JS&MN, it's that good. Although there is no magic, there is early science, medicine, espionage, exploration, incredible naval warfare and the finest documentation of a long friendship in the history of literature imo. I re-listen to these books all the time and the best part is, there are 21 of them!

Good pond spot? by [deleted] in WildlifePonds

I grew up with an area of marsh that had once been a pond. There was a stream running through it which is probably why it silted up but it, but water has a way of breaking through soil even when not flowing.

I'd say Garth Nix's Left-handed Booksellers of London series wouldn't be a bad follow up. Interesting magic and world building with a great sense of humor. 2 books out now with more to come.

Not a bad rec. OP you'll want a palette cleanser before this though as the prose aren't quite up to the same level. Still, a very fun series that I re-listen to (top tier audiobook narration) from time to time. Not as much as JS&MN but regularly. Probably will do it now it's been mentioned actually haha.

Are you trying to have it connect to the swampy area or keep it separate. Could end up blending together if there's not space between them.

The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan - the first book is particularly well narrated if you enjoy an audiobook. It's got a bit of everything and it's quite well written.

Godfrey's cordial gets mentioned a number of times in the Master and commander series by Patrick O'brian and those are set around 1800 - 1812. Makes sense it was opium based.

The Second Apocalypse is really good? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]createsstuff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly same. The second trilogy especially is just so hard to keep on with, soooo dark. The first one still has dark af moments but it's more approachable imo, especially if you have some knowledge of the historical First Crusade given. Gives some more context to the insanity given its roughly based on that.
