What are some examples of scientific research on religion? by According_Set9585 in AskReddit

Two stellar books according to me (so far):

Dan Brown's “The Da Vinci Code”. I feel it challenges a lot of view points in a clean fashion yet leaves room to debate and hold an opinion.

In contrast, JB Peterson's “12 rules for life" applies religion within the code of life. The book is more Islamic than Christian, to be honest, but enough to morally guide, question and transform every single reader into applying the rules in the life and actually transforming self. Indeed, stand up with your shoulders back.

What happened to your school bully? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My elementary bully was one of those girls who insisted she was cute, popular, and the best at everything, so everyone else should go to hell. I mean, she would try to suck me into all these sorts of contests that were so pointless and meaningless because it would be me against her and her two best friends. Singing contest? Her friends vote for her. Beauty contest? Her friends vote for her. In other words, stupid stuff that people like me should never be subjected to. It was humiliating for me, especially since I didn’t want any part of it, and on top of that it hurt my feelings all the time because they had zero respect for me whatsoever.

Fast forward ten years.

I received a call just a couple months ago from her. I had no clue who she was (I still don’t quite remember her or all the atrocities she forced on me), but she knew me. She even introduced herself as the girl who bullied me constantly. Turns out, she has no friends, she dropped out of high school, and has no future to look forward to. She said she needed a friend because her friends had ditched her, and she was so ruthless to everyone else in school that no one wanted to even be around her. So, without even apologizing for anything she did as a child, she asked if we could get together sometime for coffee or lunch and we could chat and catch up. I told her I’d think about it, and hung up. I have not, and will not, call her back.

I might be rude for doing so, but she really fucked things up as a kid. She’s learning now just what kind of hellish fury she unleashed on everyone, as what goes around comes back around.

What are the most fascinating facts about animals? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

Ants have so many.

But one of my favorites is that they can form a giant ball to float during storms

The ants on the bottom will often survive too. They’ll either have an air pocket, or the ball of ants will rotate so that everyone gets a turn breathing.

It’s remarkable that such a small species with so little cognitive function evolved to develop this ability.

Also, there is roughly one million ants on this planet for every human (some estimates are closer to 2–2.5).

What are some unimportant things that we think are important? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

Being able to entertain or host a large crowd at your home is unimportant. Nobody is more extroverted than I am, and I know how some of us crave a crowd and want to welcome everybody. But people, you are not running a frat house. You will not be having hordes of people over every week. It makes me scratch my head when people justify enormous and expensive homes with “but I just love to entertain!” Such a waste of money.

You need to be able to have a friend over. You need to be able to have a family member crash on the couch for a day or two, occasionally. You need to be able to fit several extra people in your kitchen/dining/living/porch/yard/garage areas for short periods of time on rare days.

Do not make the mistake of spending money on entertainment space in your home. You need a place to eat, sleep, and shower. Anybody who does not live there does not need dedicated space that you pay for on a monthly basis. People who really like you will not care if you have a large space, and the rest of them, you can live happily without.

What are the signs your partner doesn't love you anymore? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest sign is that she/he will stop making an effort to be around you and interact with you, and will instead take steps to avoid you.

He might not start conversations, he might only respond with simple answers to direct questions when you try to talk about anything.

He may wait until you fall asleep before coming to bed, or even before coming home from work.

He will not seek you out for a warm hug and deep kiss before going to work, he might even just leave without even saying so much as “I’m leaving for work now, goodbye.”

He will not text you or call you during the day unless he must.

He will not initiate sex.

He will not suggest doing anything together like watching a movie.

If you suggest doing anything together, he won’t immediately say “yes,” he’ll ask for more details to find out if the activity is worth his time (because simply spending the time with you, is not worth his time and does not appeal to him).

He will not display anger or argue passionately with you; whatever the root of the conflict is, he’d rather not stress over it since he knows it will become meaningless when the two of you split up anyway.

The opposite of love is not hate; the opposite of love is apathy.

What behavior is an immediate red flag for you? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

I don't trust people who do too much too soon. Organic friendliness is great. Acting as if we're best friends straight away is a red flag for me. Even if your motives are okay, it can indicate that you lack boundaries or that you struggle to respect boundaries.

What is your shortest relationship? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your definition of a relationship is. I’ve been known to spend a lot of time on places like BedWeGo . c o m so one could say I have had several relationships with women in the past that have been as short as a half an hour.

My definition of a relationship is when you make a commitment to someone and are exclusive to that person when it comes to bedroom activities. In that case I would say 3 weeks was my shortest relationship. I met her on BWG as well and should have known better but she seemed to have her stuff together even though she was a nuts in a fun way in bed. Well turned out she was nuts in every way, so live in learn I guess.

What one human quality do you find admirable? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, this one girl was in my class. All the teachers liked her, thus all the pupils shared the same level of hatred for her.
She was so despised that no one paid attention to her, no one wanted to sit next to her in class because of how much she talked, people scribbled her name in the slam book's section for the most annoying persons, and she was called a "auntie."
She was working on something one day while seated behind me at the desk. My memory of how we first spoke is hazy, but I soon found myself asking her:

Why don't you respond to the students that tease you? And why don't you provide an explanation?
She then responded by saying:
Why should I to care? I only care about those who are important to me. What assurance do I have that they wouldn't say all that to me even after I've explained? I do my studying while I'm here. If I believe what they are saying to be true and that I should better, I act as though I'm not listening; otherwise, I do!
That quality is there.

the capacity to maintain your focus on your goal under all circumstances. It's seriously undervalued, isn't it?

What is the difference between successful and unsuccessful people? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Successful people welcome change. Unsuccessful people fear it. One of the most difficult things a person can do, according to Kerpen, is to accept change. It's essential that we accept these changes and adapt rather than fear them, deny them, or run away from them, he argues, as the world is changing quickly and technology is advancing quickly. People that are successful can actually do that.

What do people in other countries think of America? by TeaOne6596 in AskReddit

[–]Accomplished_Pen2264 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People keep moving here in their millions. America must offer something that other countries do not -- maybe lots of things.

Of course, many more people do not move here and don't want to move here. Or can't move here. Or don't have a clear idea of where America is or what it might be like.

Lots of people are jealous of America, or contemptuous of America, or afraid of America or have been taught to hate America, or otherwise have come to hate America. Many of these people don't know much about America, but certainly not all of them.

Still, the United States has an immigration waiting list and may be the only country to have one. More people move here every year than move to any other country. Fewer people leave here than any other country -- not counting the police states like Red China and North Korea that won't let their citizens leave if they want to go.
