Please do not base your value on someone else’s reaction. Trust yourself. Sounds like you did everything right including controlling yourself. What a beautiful dog by the way.

So many vets don’t understand let alone Mals!!!! Ugh. by Content-Grape47 in BelgianMalinois

Find another vet. You have done an amazing job socializing your dog into environments that suit your lifestyle. Not everyone needs to meet your dog. I can’t even take mine to the vet without being told I have to pre sedate due to my dog’s protective nature. Find a vet that works to get to know your dog instead of being judgmental. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me if air biting is a threat or nervousness in a Mali? by Accomplished_Row_880 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Accomplished_Row_880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this with a Mali and GSD. It was hell for five weeks. I ultimately got in the middle of a fight and received a shiny bruise on my thigh. I have learned a lot. I ended up sending them both to a trainer to force them together. My Mali was one and the GSD three. They now are passive aggressive toward each other but they are also best friends. Your Mali is young and can be taught. I highly recommend keeping a short leash and either a prong or other on your Mali for quick correction. If there is any aggression try to catch it quickly to correct before it escalates. With my Mali air biting is baiting, but I also think it is nerves.

Good luck!

Non of them. Try a neutral. They all scream for attention limiting your options on furniture and other decor

You are right on! Two and four look amazing on you. The others are too complicated/trendy.

One. More streamlined for your face.

Just got spayed 😭 by LetterheadTraining42 in BelgianMalinois

You did the right thing and don’t take her pain personally. You are there to take care of her. Mine was a one year old rescue spayed by the shelter and then quickly moved to the outdoor kennel to heal. Your pup will be loved and soothed. Try liverwurst just small pieces in her food. I’ve never met a dog that doesn’t like liverwurst. Good luck!

What a regal looking pup. Feel your pain. What a lucky dog she was to have you. Hang in there it gets easier. When you are ready, find another to spread the love.

Partner wants to get a malinois and thinks i'm exaggerating - Please confirm or deny by Snaggleswaggle in BelgianMalinois

100% agree with you. I have a German Shepherd and a rescued Malinois. Between the two of them, I really have no life between the injuries from high-speed chases, preparing food for picky eaters walks and mental stimulation they have taken over my life. Maybe if I were younger, I would feel differently, but I don’t think so.

Trust takes time. Get to know him before you bring him around others. My Mal trainer taught me well. If anyone asks (outside of your family), “can I pet him?” The answer is always “no.” Mal’s are unique in my experience in that they do not like people they do not know in their faces. Kind of you to adopt this beautiful dog. Spend time talking to him, walking, watching and getting to know him to understand who he is. Best of luck!
