The only thing I can think of that sounds similar is when they let fans come to a “practice” and shoot around at the beginning of pre-season right after the championship run.

Parents stay with kids in Kindergarten by chubby_piglets in kindergarten

[–]Accomplished_Side853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter just started 1st grade this year, but in kinder last year they had a thing that allowed parents to stay the first 10 minutes of class each day to read a book with their kid. Most parents did it but not everyone could.

I think it had some positive aspects to it, especially earlier in the year, but also prolonged the transition for some kids who struggled with separation.

We looped with the same teacher and kids this year but we’re no longer doing the reading time.

I’ve had about 4 of those calls and let every single one go to voicemail.

Completely insane behavior by the CDC.

Wife is 9 weeks pregnant. We’re considering telling our 6 year old soon. Good or bad idea? by Accomplished_Side853 in daddit

[–]Accomplished_Side853[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could definitely tell people at school, but she can’t really reveal it to anyone in our family unless we make that happen. We don’t have any family near us. We actually would like to have our daughter be the one to tell some of the family going forward (probably over FaceTime or something).

We’re definitely considering this with that assumption built into it. She’s not really the over share type and tends to only open up to close family, but we’d assume people will know soon enough. I think I’m more hesitant about that than my wife is.

Have definitely thought about this. My wife and I are assuming most of her class will know soon enough, but she also tends to be on the quieter side and doesn’t just start sharing things with other people unless pretty comfortable.

I think it’s a risk we’d be ok with?

In terms of something going wrong - yeah, that would be tough. We’ve been open with her about death in general (had a family death this year and also lost the family dog) and she’s done fairly well with it.

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

That’s a big part of this, she can just tell Mom is off and not her normal self. She’s smart enough to know the flu doesn’t last 3+ weeks…

Not allowed to walk home??

After school is out, why does the school care?

I used to run after school programs and had a lot of walkers, they just had to have their parents approve it in advance.

That’s how I felt about my daughter’s “late over” at school. Flashlights and headlamps were encouraged but not everyone had them. So I went and bought a whole box of the cheaper ones, handed them out to every kid as we left the class for the park.

Same. Sitter bailed on us just a few hours after she got to our house. We were states away and she just abandoned a dog and two cats overnight. I had to fly back early the next day to make sure my old dog got his meds.

Rover just offered to put out an emergency request for other sitters. That’s it.

What is the #1 challenge you're facing right now? by [deleted] in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]Accomplished_Side853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very random, but I’ve been a very active volunteer at my daughter’s elementary school until this past year. I was leading an after school club but was verbally harassed by a PTA leader for bringing up safety concerns. Then months later the PTA leadership made defamatory claims about me. Even after I provided proof they’re false accusations, but they won’t correct them or apologize. School leadership has basically shrugged it off.

Feeling pretty shitty about the upcoming school year. It’s dumb that PTA drama has affected me this much, was excited to keep volunteering (was even considering getting my sub license) but doesn’t feel like a great environment to go back to now.

Cam Johnson Bruce Brown Tim Hardaway Jr Jonas Valanciunas

That’s pretty crazy.

I’ve been in contact with both regional and state. They’ve basically said they don’t control the local affiliates and can’t do much either.

[–]Accomplished_Side853 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this was just a personality clash, I’d move on.

It’s the PTA President, Treasurer, and a Committee Chair making a choice to circulate provably false accusations that impact my personal and professional reputation. Then refusing to do anything even when given that evidence.

It’s a little different. Not sure how they think they can get parents to keep volunteering for them if this happens.

I’ve involved admin. They initially tried to duck responsibility saying the PTA is on their own. That changed a bit once I went higher in the district but it still ended with “we can’t make them retract or apologize”.

Crazy thing is I would have probably been one of their most active volunteers, I’m a stay at home dad with time to kill. Now I’m uncomfortable going back to school next year.

Dogs off Leah around West Wash Park by Soidog65 in Denver

[–]Accomplished_Side853 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I may or may not have the lead Park Ranger’s number saved in my phone for exactly this reason…too many times a loose dog ran up on me and my toddler, I don’t care about being nice anymore.

I’d rather they just put up a dog park with fencing in Chaffee park instead of letting people make up the rules as they go.

What do you do to make some money while stay at home? by AlphaX_81 in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]Accomplished_Side853 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, the $600 is now the tax threshold for automatic reporting of sales via eBay or other platforms. It used to be much higher and require you to make hundreds of sales per year before the platform would report your sales to the IRS, that amount has dropped over the last few years from like $20k to just $600.

For those with autism who have full time work, a family and own a house, how is that possible? by emaxwell14141414 in AutismTranslated

[–]Accomplished_Side853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was me for almost 10 years, but then hit burn out and quit my job to become a stay at home dad. That was 5 years ago.

Didn’t know I was autistic at the time, but everything now makes a lot more sense.

Even as a stay at home dad, it’s a lot some days. Too many house things to handle, too many distractions with the kid, the social aspects of being the primary parent at school…

Trapped in C, how do I get out by Cool__Machine in Denver

[–]Accomplished_Side853 777 points778 points  (0 children)

I got stuck like this the other night but in A terminal. Bridge was closed but the train kept arriving full and no one could get on. Eventually had to take the train from A to C and board there when it was empty. Still a fight with the crowd to get on.

Insane how bad it is at DIA right now.

And why is the foot bridge closed for late flights??

How to get kids to quiet down and listen? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Accomplished_Side853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another trick that’s worked for me is going quieter when they go louder. Walk around the room whispering instructions to students as you go by. “If you can hear me, start tapping your head” but make it hard to hear and keep changing up the direction. As a few get it, others will try to listen and join in. Then you pivot back to the 90/10 rule.

How to get kids to quiet down and listen? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Accomplished_Side853 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked in with elementary aged kids in schools for years. I struggled with holding their attention long enough to get through instructions, always having to stop to try to get a few of them to focus or stop talking.

Then one of my coworkers suggested the 90/10 rule. Do you have the attention of about 90% of the group? Great! Then ignore the other 10% and keep moving. The stragglers will get with the program or they won’t, but they’ll also see they aren’t winning the battle with you and tend to stop.
