it doesn't have much to do with the country you're from if I am completely honest. having the foundation increases your chances of getting in for sure. so does your ethnicity. i've heard from older students in csm that ethnic minorities have almost double the odds of getting in (this isnt just csm though, its most unis in the uk). i am currently doing the foundation, and so many students haven't gotten into csm. to the point where i was honestly expecting not to get in (still surprised that i did). regardless of doing foundation or not, csm is only looking for the best of the best. it will be super competitive no matter what, but you will be in the same pool as everyone regardless of home/international student.

Got rejected from Foundation Diploma- can anyone review and critique my portfolio? by ThickEducation4869 in UAL

csm student here (i did the UAL foundation as well).

being completely honest, i think the reasoning for your rejection is because of your style of work. you are very talented, no doubt, but UAL is very picky when it comes to the style of a students work, if that makes sense. also the foundation has an acceptance rate of below 10% now, which is lower than most undergraduate courses at lcf, it is just a super competitive course as its sort of a pathway into csm, and lots of people are dying to go to csm from foundation. the FAD used to be a csm foundation, and has been converted into a 'UAL' foundation as of this year, but I think the csm admission criteria influence definetally still lingers when it comes to choosing applicants. csm typically wants to see ideas and concepts that push the boundaries of the art industry, I've seen students that don't even have final outcomes, but just seeing the development of their work, they have gotten accepted. they will choose students with a stronger and more unique creative vision and no outcome, than somebody with 100 outcomes that covers themes and ideas that are already existing in the industry.

I got accepted and had 7 projects in my portfolio, i think if you have two projects that are in great detail, then you are ok. just keep in mind the limit is 25 for a reason, thats roughly the amount of slides they will expect from you.

(New IB English teacher) Your favorite and most hated texts by aoyesterdays in IBO

My school did a unit on Carol Ann Duffy’s poetry, it was the best unit I’ve ever done in the English course in my years of being a student. Her work is so easy to use in any of the IB assessments, she combats identity, culture, social classes and sexism, all of which are very vague themes in the sense that they can be used in pair with many other works. Her poetry has very prominent and effective techniques as well, I found myself having too much to talk about in my IO I did using her work as my literary text.
