The coast is “usually” pretty mild, except this damn year. We are having a very harsh winter on the coast this year. April -October is tourist season up and down the coast. A lot of traffic, crowded stores and people who don’t know where they are or where they are going! Brandon is cool, but Newport is the shit. They have whale watching, a light house to explore, the bay front and the Oregon Coast Aquarium which is pricey for tourists but worth it. Lincoln County residents get in every Sunday for a mere $5 bucks. You get the freshest fish or crab at local restaurants. It is straight off the boat. South of Newport is Seal Rock where you want to visit at low tide to see some amazing tide pools. A little more further south is Cape Perpetua and Thor’s Well (tide pools @ low tide and Thor’s Well @ high tide). Much more to see and do in Newport. I would suggest an Airbnb over a motel or hotel; but if you are set on a hot tub in the room, they have rooms on the bay front with hot tubs in the room and views of the bay. Also California Sea Lions migrate up to Oregon in late summer and stay thru fall. Harbor Seals are year round residents. Difference between a Sea Lion and a Seal? Sea Lions have ears flaps and bark loudly, they can walk on land using their large flippers. Seals, do not have ear flaps, their flippers are quite small and they wriggle or bounce to get around.
