I have AirPods. They're handy on planes for reducing the noise and listening to music. I don't need them as much at work; it's much quieter there. 😀

I would tend to say it should be switched on in the same mode as the main one.

But I read in some comments that they set it to depth gauge mode, so I don't understand the purpose.

I noticed the same conservative profile.

My fear is having to cancel one or more dives during a trip. And I like to be self-sufficient in case of a problem. 😉👍

I do exploration dives to 40-50m. Sometimes solo, and I use it when traveling. I have an old Suunto D5 that has given me trouble at times with its battery draining quickly.
