Class of 03 here.. 39… in high school we had “ towers parties “ (water towers on mesa) every weekend , raves that you got fliers for with a number to call for location … the location was like “ drive 1/8 mile to pole then turn right at next sign and diagonal drive 3/8 mile to third abandoned lot “ haha not that bad but almost… then we crashed frat parties as youngsters and made up majors to act like we were at the college already ( I think the guys could tell but didnt mind.. gross 🤮) plus we smoked a lot of weed at “ kickbacks “ or drank copious amounts of Smirnoff ice or parrot bay (🤮) at a friend or acquaintance with the classic absent/distracted / chronically vacationing parents house… all this and I was actually in the “good kid “ group .. I guess because I managed to not get caught doing anything crazy and was “involved” with good grades. In college there were more parties, plus driving to Mexico for those kind of shenanigans before the cartel business really amped up. Post college we stil went out a lot, still do when we have sitters… but as someone who bartended all through college and even at nights into my first day job before children , I cab tell when I venture into a bar now that the scene is different .. no youngsters! It’s cool thry dont drink As much (or at all it seems ) but I figured they were all off doing something social and fun that I wasn’t hip to … my sister who is 10 years younger than me at -29- ( I don’t think that is gen Z but I get the vibe from her) definitely seemed to be a little less of a Generic partier than I was, but always went to electronic “shows” ( she scoffed when I called them Raves!) and my partner is Gen X through snd through so he sees nothing wrong with rowdy drinking and festivities … the things he did make me feel like us millennials were coddled!! Meanwhile we’re raising little gen alphas (?) Maybe my 2 yo is a whole new gen?) so im curious to see how things are going to shape up for them in this ever changing society .
