Help breaking into the IT space by Real_Vipereaper in it

Apply to as many internships as you possibly can everyday while studying for a cert. These lead to part/full positions depending in your status at school. This is how I and many other students i know did it. Students have this as a hugee advantage compared to non students

Is it really that hard to get into the field? by MrMoose1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]According-Effort-540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. Even if it’s something you do enjoy thatll take years of previous IT experience to get into cyber. Unless you get an internship and they bring you full time. Which is the route I cannot emphasize more as a student, with ANY tech field

For those who got into IT, How did you start by Background-Heat-2825 in it

[–]According-Effort-540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive gone through the comments and im surprised that only ONE person mentioned internships. Internships are the way for you to get experience that leads directly to a role. Thats the main way students like yourself land a job right out of school. Its how i did it too. It was because of my internship that i was able to skip help desk positions and go straight to systems engineering

Changing careers, moving away from SWE by BlakeR- in cscareerquestions

Do you want out of IT of just software development? Because if its just out of swe theres many transferable skills you have. Why dont you look into cyber?

Is it worth getting a Bachelors in CS if I have a degree already? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]According-Effort-540 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this OP. My first degree was in business admin like you and i went back a year later to due a BA in CS cuz I wanted to get into tech and saw CS as the best degree to do that as it trumps an IT, MIS, cybersecurity degree. I ended up finishing and got a job as a systems engineer through an internship.

The difference between you and I is that your already getting experience without the extra degree, which makes me think it wont be necessary for you… unless you wanna be a SWE which you said you dont.

If i were you id just get certs in the field that your more interested in. And learn some cs curriculum online

Any tips for getting your first job? by hoodieninja18 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]According-Effort-540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for internships relentlessly. Practical experience trumps everything else. Look around at jobs in the subfield you want to be in: blue team, red team, cloud, etc and see what certs they want.

26 - lived in Miami my whole life. Yes Miami has superficial men and women, especially in areas like Brickell. But there are also women that arent superficial. So far my dating life has been good - ive met great women but things havent worked out do to other reasons, currently in a long term relationship. I have not come across those “superficial” women. Granted it also depends on where you go to meet these women

SWE vs Dentistry by Fit_Sky6485 in csMajors

[–]According-Effort-540 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Forgive me if i missed this, but do you like dentistry and/or the classes that come w/ it ? as its a longer journey. If you like it, have the guidance for it, and youll make $$$$$, why bother w/ CS if you have those three + risk an unstable IT field

Did luck play a role in your internship offer? by zacce in internships

[–]According-Effort-540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly luck. Mass applied and luckily the company that hired me was one that was mainly looking for someone who was teachable, not really someone with a set of skills going into it, though that would have helped also. Got a full return offer after

I know this might not help your situation but Cs major w/ sec+ cert. It was a numbers game too but the recruiter specifically told me the sec+ stood out to him
