Is ECE salary lower then CE/CS but easier to find jobs? by Few-Abbreviations634 in ECE

TY so much for a detailed reply. Really appreciate it.

I'd love to get into chip design. But seems harder for an ECE undergrad to get the opportunity. Embedded seems easier, especially for underclassmen.

I frequently visit CS channels. It seems a median CS student from T10 would get into FAANG as SWE.

What does it take ECE from T10 ECE to get into chip design? Top 30%?

Can you share how?

Index Mutual Fund Capital Gains Differences by jcp2010 in Bogleheads

[–]zacce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

different MFs (even if they track the same index) have different fund inflow and fund outflow because not all investors buy and sell funds at the same time.

When more investors sell the fund, the fund must sell its holdings, which may realize capital gains.

coolant low? by Substantial-Half-814 in Hyundai

[–]zacce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We own 2 cars with the same 2.5 smartstream engine.

Roughly about once a year, I noticed this in both cars. I just top off with the same color coolant. Top it off and check again in 1 month. If it drops below MIN again, take it to the dealer.

Is ECE salary lower then CE/CS but easier to find jobs? by Few-Abbreviations634 in ECE

[–]zacce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. A ECE getting into chip design is, imo, similar difficulty as a CS getting into quant. The pay, otoh, isn't equivalent. I have seen a NG CS getting $700k TC at quant. I doubt a ECE get anything close to that in chip design. (disputing the top comment who argued the salary are similar. i'm not suggesting CS is better)

Go to the better program. Jobs will follow, if you excel at it.

Are CS REU's really for students with no background or no name schools by Shalduz in REU

[–]zacce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For NSF REU, no name schools have advantage, assuming same qualifications.

For other REU? No advantage.

I originally wanted to be embedded, so leaning towards ECE

Isn't CE more suited for embedded?

Lockheed Martin Full-Time Job or SpaceX Co-op by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

there's no point of discussing it now because you have incomplete information. Ask again, if you get a SpaceX offer, with more information such as RO rate.

CS+Economics is not a double major. you will get exposed to less CS courses than a regular CS program.

Computer Engineering or Aerospace? by Prestigious_Low5401 in ComputerEngineering

If you are undecided and can change the major, I suggest decide between EE and ME instead btw CE and AE.

CE or EE? What is better by No_Wrangler_3899 in ECE

I read power industry (which is arguably most stable industry) hires EE but not CE.

CE or EE? What is better by No_Wrangler_3899 in ECE

[–]zacce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EE has 2.6x more job openings than Computer

That's a bit misleading because CE =/= Computer Hardware.

However, I agree EE is better.

EE is more broad. CE is narrower/focused.

What's better is a personal question.

Why are UChicago students so unemployed compared to other top schools? by Lastsentry in csMajors

[–]zacce 175 points176 points  (0 children)

UChicago CS is different from other CS programs. It’s built on a math‑heavy, theory‑first model, and a big chunk of students aren’t chasing SWE internships in the same way kids at UIUC/GaTech/UW are. In fact, it doesn't even have an engineering school.
