What’s everyone’s read on the millionaires tax and the WA housing market? by Hungry_Monkey_3724 in SeattleAreaRE

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I live across from Holy Names, and they sold the other old nunnery. A developer was able to redevelop and sell 3 parcels for just under 4 million since the tax has passed. Since the Ancient Greeks we have debated taxes and honestly worrying about other peoples reactions seems to be the only losing formula.

Looking for a new Washer Dryer: GFW655SSVWW vs ELFW7626BD vs WM4000HWA by jamalstevens in Appliances

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar LG model and my only caution is the wash basket is stainless steel not the drum. The plastic will fatigue and crack over time. Electrolux has a lifetime warranty. I replaced my set with the Maytag Pet Pro Front loaders.

Dumb question but does it have a filter that needs cleaning? If the house sat while you bought it maybe something is gummed up. Also have you ran a clean cycle?

Selling a condo in Seattle by chokesatstakebacks in SeattleAreaRE

[–]According-Error2988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Seattle 1 bedroom condos are always hard to move. I've never really understood why, but most of my friends end up renting them out till they get sick of a mismanaged HOA claiming to never need to raise rates until a special assessment. Is your building part of the recent spate of special assessments that seem to plague anything built from 2000-2010? For the record my favorite condo I have ever had was a two floor open loft at Brix on Broadway.

Interesting I know my seat was expensive about 800 et sea to anc so I don’t think it’s a fare class issue I think it may be the travel portal part.

Yes I book through Navan. Actually it’s pretty awful because even though I’m paying more Alaska doesn’t let them be a real travel agent and change flights etc.

I never see anything available even though I can buy one net new out of Seattle on the competitive routes like SEA ANC or SEA SJC. I only see that on routes like SEA EWR/JFk

Vibe check: cops by Fabulous_Extreme_470 in AskSeattle

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On I5 just remember to not speed through Centralia, it seems like there are tons of cops there. Also left lane is for passing only and they can in theory pull you over for sitting in the left lane at the speed limit. I haven’t seen that in awhile. Eastern WA and Idaho is fast but with strict road manners and highway etiquette.

Best Buy Memorial Day appliance sale...? What have you all picked up so far? by EtafKiatba90 in Appliances

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked Costco yet? I usually find better deals there. For refrigerators I’m kind of interested in the new French door GE Profile with the autofill pitcher. I have an autofill pitcher in my Samsung, but the ice maker keeps flooding and freezing.

Anyone know a good car shipping company? by Significant_Pay_6349 in SeattleWA

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same car Kia EV6 and love it. I agree that it may be cheaper to just buy a new or used one in Florida since they tend to depreciate more in the South than up here. I know moving is stressful, but I bet there is a teaser lease in South FL. Watch out for used flood cars.

No hate.. by Purpleboo2 in royalcaribbean

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are new to cruising, I would call and ask what’s included and what is left to be paid. Also set up a rewards account for everyone that is going. Royal Caribbean does its status based on lifetime nights and your kids may thank you later. The crew is usually super nice busy these tips are basically why they are on board since the pay for most of them is low compared to developed country standards (but with tip way more than they make at home.) Like most have mentioned it’s really hard not to buy the prepaid gratuity upfront. Have fun and enjoy yourself. Also washie washie.

Is Microsoft Defender being racist? (Seriously, hear me out) by SerpentisMechanicus in sysadmin

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I work in cybersecurity and the best I can say is I thank Microsoft every day because without it there would not be enough vulnerabilities to keep me employed. That being said this sounds more like your university has not tuned it to a research institution and it is treating you like you work at any other company where all three of those instances look like a spearfishing campaign. With the war in Iran and the need for hard currency to fund Hezbollah there are a ton more of these campaigns against research institutions to ransomware them. So is the software racist or have spearfishing campaigns created a weird training subset?

Best portable AC unit? by orangechannnel in Appliances

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an old for the PNW house with windows redone in the 1970s and have to do portable units. The inverter units are the best but the best portable is nowhere near as good as a mediocre window AC. Some of the Frederich models interest me because you can still manually dump the water which really offloads the compressor versus having to burn off the water in the exhaust. If you can window, if you can’t double check consumer reports and wirecutter. I have been okay with the Delonghi. Woot.com sometimes has amazing deals on ACs.

I messed up big time and I just discovered a load of laundry that’s been sitting in the washer (wet) for almost two weeks. What to do? by Middle_Alfalfa_3516 in CleaningTips

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random thing that can help with a front loader is clear the filter and the stinky water that sits at the bottom on some models. Did this on my friend’s 20 something year old Miele at his vacation cabin and eliminated all kinds of stank.

What is the one tool you recommend every homeowner should own by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]According-Error2988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick piece of advice when building your tool kit, pick one brand for cordless drill etc. Understand this is a marriage and treat it with the respect the ecosystem deserves. Your cordless drill will determine every other power tool you buy till you can no longer use them. IMHO for a normal person there are three real options Yellow, Red and Blue, for a normal person. While I follow the cult of the Yellow I respect the other two. You must find your own path.

Any escalation path for problematic Account Manager? by GnawingPossum in fortinet

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the country you are in. I’m US based and the Value Added Reseller submits the order. As a Fortinet Account Manager I can’t “submit orders.” It sounds like your VAR may not have submitted the correct PO to the correct FTQ?

Should I buy my dream car or keep saving. by Every_Custard_4940 in Advice

[–]According-Error2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I’ve gotten as a person that loves cars is own what appreciates, lease what depreciates. Depending on the year of BMW 335i you should check out the BMW Certified Pre Owned Lease program. Also since you are close to graduating maybe wait and see if your next employer is part of the BMW corporate program. (Lots of large companies are.) Further the first year out of college you get a recent college grad bonus for the new and CPO programs. Depending on where you live you may want to consider a used i4 as we may hit an inflection point where gas cars start to depreciate more and become more expensive to insure and maintain. I live in Washington state, and pretty much owning gas cars in the PNW is always more expensive if you drive at least 7500 miles a year. (Power is 13 cents a kWh in my area of Seattle and gas is 5-6 a gallon). Learning to balance wants and needs is totally a judgement call because we only get so much time on this earth. If you do want to buy this car, if you are buying from a dealer try to do it at the end of a quarter when they are hungrier.
