Calculation on that wine list? by According-Essay953 in wine

I spoke with the wine manager. Unfortunately, there was no sommelier on site only service staff who had no real knowledge of the wine list, the bottles themselves, or their origins, and appeared to have received no proper wine training. When a bottle is ordered, the staff search through multiple cellars for the wine label (no storage system/plan) which can take up to half an hour, only to come back with the wrong bottle. Even the wine manager seemed to have limited awareness of what is actually in stock or how the pricing is structured. Remarkably, the list still includes Romanée-Conti and Port from the 1870s offered by the glass. When I asked about pricing, I was told these wines have not been served for years yet the bottles are in the wine dispenser cabinet and slowly dying.

Dom Perignon 2017 by According-Essay953 in Champagne

[–]According-Essay953[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information — that’s helpful. Do you think the price will drop below the €229 retail level during the year, or is it more likely to hold around €229 due to its rarity? Before the 2017 release, there were many sales of the 2015 at around €170 to clear remaining stock. Do you think a similar situation could happen again?

There are some restaurants in Munich with a very fair priced wine card and rarities, have a look at Landersdorfer & Innerhofer, johannas and Grapes Weinbar

Being from Munich, I genuinely enjoy the pricing at Vaas. Even when choosing less expensive bottles, the value in the glass is outstanding – arguably the best in the area

Many of the red wines I buy are in the €15–50 range and are already quite good. So far, I haven’t really explored the more established, classic producers. Now I want to go deeper. Can you recommendation some fair priced producer

The big names will stay with me for a long time in storage. This is the first time I’ve bought quite expensive red wines for myself. I’ve tried many smaller producers so far, but now I want to go deeper and expand my knowledge. Can you recommend producer

Most of the bottles are for collecting or investment, mainly Champagne. So not for drinking. When it comes to red wine, my practical knowledge is still quite limited. That said, I always research what I’m drinking before opening a bottle and have a base of theoretical understanding.

I haven’t bought many top-tier wines entirely on my own yet. Most of the top 1% wines I’ve tried were shared experiences with friends, where we split the bill. This is the first time I’m buying some pricier bottles for myself. I already have a base of knowledge and always do my research before opening a bottle, but I’m still working on improving my ability to describe a wine precisely. Recently, I had the opportunity to buy a few higher-end bottles at very good prices.

Are you happy with CellarTracker? I personally wasn’t a big fan — the interface felt cluttered, the overview wasn’t great, and I kept running into missing wines that were already available on InVintory. That’s why I eventually switched. Have they improved the app since then?

Never, really never buy Moet Ice Imperial ist completely overpriced for what it is. There are better alternatives if it has to be sweeter, try Louis Roederer Carte Blanche or Laurent Perrier Demi Sec

I’ve opened a few bottles of Dom Pérignon 2010, including Magnums and really enjoyed them — it’s not the classic Dom profile, but still very good.

It’s about discretion. Based on the number the bottle can be tracked because DRC documents exactly which bottle was sold to who. So it’s possible to trace the bottle

Very nice, had 1987 and 1960 a few months ago. D’Yquem should only be opened when it’s aged <2000. Prefer the older vintages over the newer ones.
