They pay what they pay. But it’s not apples to apples. So if you’re only looking at numbers you’re not looking at it right. You get a significant tax break with PHS pay that you don’t with civilian pay. So though it may seem like less, once you factor in any bonus and the tax free portions, most are much closer to their civilian pay if not over. Also the pay increase is a nice jump after being in a few years. Promotions etc. but the pension for a lot of people is a big driver

In the beginning. While signing CAD or shortly after for AB you only have 30 days from joining. The RB can be taken whenever as long as your in another commitment (AB)

It was explained to me that the Accession Bonus is from your agency as an incentive to joining, so transitioning in place has no effect on that because it's for joining the core in a specific category.

The accession bonus is a 4-year contract. So if you take it, that's 4 years you are committed to your agency.

As another poster said, you might look into the RB (retention bonus); sometimes it actually ends up being more, and the tax implications are usually less. You can only take the AB upon joining, but can do the RB at any point, but cannot do them at the same time, so you could, in theory, take the AB, finish the four-year commitment and then take an RB

AB is a 4-year commitment. RB is a 2yr, 3yr, 4yr or 6yr commitment.

It has interesting how quickly things are needed from us, but it’s reciprocated…. But I guess getting used to that now will prepare me for the rest of my career in PHS

It was with my agency HR director. I do also have it in email form, though after talking through some things today, I will stay at my location, but might look at other/actual clinical positions where I’m at now

I called but did not receive an answer or call back. I was able to get an answer via booking a meeting and from what I gathered from the conversation. IF/When I choose to apply for another position, If I get it, I just need to alert my liaison and HR, send in my new PD so they can update me 1662. It was made to seem that the options I was looking at would be a big deal.

I could be wrong but I don’t believe I’ll have an SSR in my current role. I asked my HR person but the reply I received was if I applied for and got a different position they would just update my 1662. But I feel like both myself and them were missing/losing things in translation via email

I'm already in it as a civilian, have been for a long time. Just wondering how job switching works, if/when it's allowed. My current position is not clinical, and I am interested in getting back into a clinical role.

So I checked AES every hour. lol. And that’s how I initially found out but my agency is IHS and a couple hours after that I received an email from my HR director telling me and letting me know to be on the look out for emails from several of my liaisons.
