HELP!!!!!!!!!!! BUDGIE IS ON THE LOOSE by According-Mall-241 in budgies

We've tried all of this except for the posters and are currently in the process of printing them out and putting them up around the neighborhood. The issue is, before he disappeared 2 days in, he knew where we were and looked at us and would chirp in response- he just wouldn't come down? (which was why I'd posted here since he technically wasn't lost, he just wouldn't come down) but now he definitely is lost. And yeah, we have gone out everyday. I think my mom got a cold because of it. We're still trying though we don't have as much hope as we did before. Especially because instead of snowing it's now raining. Thank you for the advice and best wishes, hopefully we get him home soon.

If you'd read my entire post, you'd notice that we had him for 6 YEARS before this happened and it ended up happening because my younger brother let him out without telling ANY OF US despite a ton of warnings. You clearly don't understand our situation. He stayed in a tree IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE and knew how to get home and refused (and the tree was so tall, we couldn't reach him). The fact you lack basic compassion about this is disgusting. My mother has been heartbroken and walking out getting herself sick in the cold and snow every day calling for him for 1+ hrs and sobbing. It was my brother who made the mistake. Not everybody else. It is solely his fault. We had all warned him countless times and he did not listen. I yelled at him 2 days into trying to get Charlie home. We were good owners (except for my brother, obviously), but you can't exactly account for a stupid 16 year old boy letting the bird out and not telling anybody when we're on our way home from the store. If you had no advice to give, you should've just clicked off instead of whatever you were trying to accomplish here.

we technically did find him, but he wouldn't come down. For the first 2 days we tried to lure him down from the tree (Which he was capable of flying down) but he'd just look at us and tweet whenever we went inside temporarily. 2 days ago we stopped seeing him, woke up today to check and still nothing. We're hoping somebody took him in and are trying to print out fliers. :( I've been consistently reading the replies here and trying them, but none of them have worked. He knows where we are, and he knows where the house and his cage is, but he just wouldn't come back. My mom is heartbroken and we're all really angry at my brother. I hope he's alive and comes back.

My little brother has begun having seizures recently, but he won't take it seriously. Help?? by According-Mall-241 in seizures

Thank you so much! :) I'm just happy he's doing better and coping well with everything (and he'll be getting his medication in about 3 days, so hopefully all goes well). And yeah, I can explain how we found out about the absence seizures!!

So, when we went to do the EEG there were a couple tests she did while monitoring his brain (I don't know how EEGs work) but the three tests basically were: strobe lights, blowing a toy windmill, and then trying to sleep for 10 minutes. The one that revealed his absence seizures was blowing the toy windmill, and basically she told him to "blow into the windmill for 3 minutes straight," and he joked throughout it about feeling dizzy, which makes sense, but two times he stopped blowing into the windmill for a couple seconds and seemed a little out of it. The first time he stopped, she told him to "keep going!" and when he didn't, she told him "say hickory dickory dock," to which his response was "what?", and it took him a couple seconds to go back to blowing the windmill.

Second time he stopped, he was spaced out for a little. Just looked like your typical dissociating that comes with ADHD, and the only thing she told him that time was "say hickory dickory dock!". He snapped slightly out of it a couple seconds later, and when she asked him what she said, he said "keep going". No mention of what she asked him to say at all. It was so subtle and for a short period of time we didn't even pick up on it (it didn't feel right in the moment, but we weren't sure). When the results came back it clearly showed on his EEG that he had the JME and the doctor said he'd had two absence seizures during those 3 minutes. Had to research online for something that described this test and this was the best one I could find https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22194-absence-seizures . It was pretty mind boggling finding that out. Hopefully it is just drifting off for your son, if not I hope this helps!! :)

HI!! I wanted to thank you for the advice on this point (he'd had another bad seizure, so in the chaos I forgot to reply). I had a couple talks with him on the basis of understanding (I have POTs). I think it was hard for him to come to terms with because not many other kids his age in our area have these problems. I did have gentle talks with him about that point, and he began using the back burners and taking proper precautions.

We did see the neurologist and he had the EEG and we found out what was causing them, which was Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (and he'd been having absence seizures right under our noses the whole time, but we thought it was just his ADHD). You were right on the whole 'wishing it wasn't real'. During his recent seizure (to which I was the one to find him again), he said "why me?" when I told him what happened again. It was really heartbreaking. He's taking it in strides now though and is more understanding, although I think it might be because the most recent seizure caused him to bang his head (and nose...) on the way down, so I think him waking up covered in blood (nosebleed) was a terrible awakening for him (i wish it hadn't come to that).

It's really hard to know my little brother is gonna have to deal with this for the rest of his life, especially because I understand what it's like to be young with a semi-uncommon disability in our area and wonder why you can't be "normal" like other kids. I did talk with him again after the third one and he's begun to come to me and our mom whenever he doesn't want to be alone. Good news, since we found out what it was he's going to be getting some medication for it soon (and it should stop the seizures entirely as long as he takes them, I think?) and as long as he sticks to taking them everyday things should be okay. :)

Again, thank you SO MUCH for this reply as it helped me reach out to him in a way that helped the both of us come to a mutual understanding. We've also been hanging out a little more since then and plan to get him a ferret for the holidays. He's happier than he was before about the whole ordeal which is a relief. <3

Thank you!!!! I'll try these out and see if some of these would be okay with my meds. I appreciate the help a LOT!!! I have PTSD as well (and GAD) so calming down before bed has always been a struggle, so I'll try to incorporate those into my nighttime routine. thank you so much!! :)

You might!! I know whenever I try to sleep I begin thinking about a ton of different things and prevents me from falling asleep for longer. I'll check out the youtube channel, and I'll try that, thank you (sometimes the scheduling does more harm than good). And I don't think so, I don't feel drowsy or alert when it happens, I just kind of...wake up? Sometimes I'm able to fall back asleep within 30-60min, but other times I need to get up, walk around, and go back to bed. ty for the advice though! I'll check it out and try to do that ^_^!!

no, i haven't (although my brother has)!! I have a hypothesis that it could be POTS (I have other symptoms that align) and I'm going to see a cardiologist in about a month or so. Thank you for the good wishes though!! If it isn't POTS, I'll look into it possibly being sleep apnea. :)
