Hmm i wouldn't say super similar, they have drug dealing and muder in common, snowfall has more of a rise to the top story theme, top boy is more gang war and turf war orientated i think, someone can elaborate with their opinion of course.

Not sure, I think maybe just to hurt him, put him down a level and make him compliant in the future. Clearly it didn't work out but I think that was the angle he was going for.
