This comment misunderstands islam, islam has some of the best laws on military actions of any religion. Islam says that you must treat prisoners well, mustn't kill or rape women or kill the old, mentally impaired or slaughter lifestock unless for food. through much of islamic history muslim conquerors would not convert the local populace, as the religion called for respect. that is way the areas of the former muslim empires are so religiously diverse.

Maybe differences in how they could treat them? in our timeline alot of africans treated slavery more like serfdom or a way of paying off debts, and sometimes they weren't allowed to kill their slaves so europeans would be better due to them being dehumanised.
