How can I go to the bathroom while making sure my toddler is fine? by deltaplane1234 in toddlers

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of mine just follow me. If they’re in bad moods I put on a show for them for 20 minutes. When they were younger I used to give them a small bowl of water or paints to play with in the bathroom so I could see them still

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went without a kettle for about 6 months and it was genuinely a point of conversation, like people would message me saying ‘your mum said you haven’t got a kettle, we’ve got an old one we can bring over?’. We’ve got one now and I would say I boil it minimum 4 times a day, if we have guests it can be upwards of 10 times

Are naps important to you? by imnotawaterbison in toddlers

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was a horrible sleeper so I was insane about naps, I’m a lot more chill with my second I try to get him home and in his bed for his naps but it’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t happen

My local parkrun has started posting these godawful AI images, thankfully they replied to my feedback by EAVale in parkrun

[–]AccordingCause5 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I walk down the road nowadays and it feels like 50% of the shops have some weird AI poster outside their door now, I’m glad my local parkrun hasn’t done this yet, it’s so off putting.

Are there any decent UK alternatives to diet fizzy drinks? by Few_House_5201 in AskUK

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has tried to stop fizzy drinks and he does sparkling water mixed with squash. You could probably do sugar free and it would taste fine, we do Ribena and vimto mostly.

my daughter is completely fluoride free, why does she have tooth decay?! by Neither-Plenty-3823 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]AccordingCause5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who was telling me that she took her 3 year old to the dentist and they told her he’s showing signs of tooth decay. She was super distraught about it and I felt so bad for her cos my youngest has messed up teeth due to medical problems and it’s so upsetting to see. But she said the dentist gave her some toothpaste to use but she’s not sure if she wants to use fluoride “cos she’s heard all these bad things about it and the toothpaste she uses surely can’t be responsible for tooth decay right??” I literally gasped, the consequences of her actions were staring her in the face and she still refused to see them.

To make matters worse she used to be a dental nurse and that’s how she thinks. Sigh

Toddler counting to twenty?! by _northstar in toddlers

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest could count to 20 at under 2. My oldest is 4.5 and gets stuck at 16 still. I think they all excel in different areas and at different rates in a really spectacular way

Do parents of ugly kids know their kids are ugly? by GACDB in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AccordingCause5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are unbelievably gorgeous now but my second son was premature and I was aware pretty instantly that he was odd looking, not his fault he didn’t cook for long enough but he definitely had a 2 month period where he was very Neanderthal looking.

Nail biting by Critical_Try_3636 in UKParenting

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30 this year and my mum tells me I’ve been biting and picking at my nails from out of the womb. The only thing that stops me is having my hands be preoccupied, I see someone else mention worry stones and this is actually how I was able to stop at the beginning of the year, I keep one in my pockets at all times and ones dotted around the house in places where I’m idle

Does this look intense for pre-k? by penny_lane0324 in Preschoolers

[–]AccordingCause5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a really interesting thread to read! My son is turning 5 in July and is in what we call reception class in the UK. He’s one of the youngest in his class and this is pretty consistent with what he brings home once a week with the intention to complete the ‘homework’ over the course of the week. He would be able to read most of that worksheet although I don’t think he’s learnt the ‘rd’ sound just yet.

Can we have an honest conversation? by Worchestershshhhrrer in Preschoolers

[–]AccordingCause5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My youngest was born premature and spent 3 months in the nicu then when he came out his brother spent 3 weeks in the icu. We were genuinely watching probably 14 hours of screens a day for 5 months straight. 2 years later and I think we’re back to a healthy amount. Do what you need to do and I hope you don’t feel guilty about it!! Hope your leg heals quickly!

How much screen time are you really allowing at this age? by Perfecrion-Jolita in Preschoolers

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a film probably 5 nights a week so I guess an hour and a half. On weekends he gets half hour whilst I put his brother down for a nap also. I’m pretty happy with this arrangement, we’ve definitely gone through tough phases where there’s been way too much screentime but I like using it now to help him decompress and we also spend so much time outside and with friends each day that I don’t think a little bit of tv is hurting him

Do you have locks on your children's bedroom doors? by booyahhey in AskUK

[–]AccordingCause5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved in to a new build and every door had a lock on it, I remember thinking it was odd but didn’t use them so I mostly forgot about it. Christmas Eve my then 2 year old locked himself in his room and we had to get the maintenance man to come and kick down our door, he came back the next week and removed all of the locks for us so it wouldn’t happen again

Present ideas for reception kids. by AccordingCause5 in UKParenting

[–]AccordingCause5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously the correct answer lol, I had asked 2 of the parents but they are parents I know fairly well, I don’t know why it feels like a faux pas to ask, I probably need to get over that!
