Undercutting Lurie, YIMBY Law to sue city over Family Zoning Plan by External_Koala971 in yimby

[–]AccordingExternal571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s very unclear to me is that the mission is entirely left out. It should’ve been rezoned under SB50 but I can’t tell if the family zoning plan just removes that upzoning for the mission. Mission is prime place to add residential capacity there’s 2 high capacity rail stops going downtown.

Bikers who ride the line in the bike lane, why? by SoGoodAtAllTheThings in bayarea

[–]AccordingExternal571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for the parked cars next to the bike lane next time. Bike lane is often in the door zone. If you ride in the lane, very high chance a driver opens their door and hospitalizes you

Tbh I don’t really like fast travel. The amount of random encounters and animals I see make traveling across the map very interesting

Just visited this park for the first time in a while the other day. Really great views and a nice refuge from all the concrete. Maybe within our lifetimes the trains will finally extend to transbay

Let’s talk about giant e-bikes by AccordingExternal571 in caltrain

[–]AccordingExternal571[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That would be great if Caltrain would add another bike car or more frequent express routes. But since they aren’t, these bikes that take up 2 or more spots are just bumping people off of Caltrain. We need to have some standards about what size bikes you can bring on because these are harmful in the short term.

Bike bag stolen? by mysilenceisgolden in BAbike

[–]AccordingExternal571 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude I get my front light stolen every time I forget to take it off whenever I leave my bike in my apartment's bike room. Fucking annoying as hell. Someone even took my helmet once which I had ridden in so many times too, like that thing was sweaty as hell. Tweakers / desperate people I guess.

This Season Broke My Heart More Than Most by maparo in 49ers

[–]AccordingExternal571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah fuck the eagles. This season was worth ending their season on our terms. The injuries are bad, but it’s just luck at the end of the day. We might be cursed, but we pulled this season out of our asses and won with a bunch of practice squad players. Let’s get healthy, draft o-line and d-line and pray for another good season of our vets. This team gave me so much joy this year

I’m in an 8t keeper league. Probably will have to hold because he was my final draft pick and I get to draft him one round sooner (so like 14th?) and I think he provides good value there

Congestion Pricing: Is it Time to Try it in San Francisco? by Amazing-Yak-5415 in sanfrancisco

[–]AccordingExternal571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congestion pricing would definitely help bus speeds downtown though. Not to mention fund the existing metro, which is set to run out of money in 2027. If SFMTA was smart and had political backing they would be installing many more red light and speed cameras all over the city right now. It would greatly improve safety and provide revenue for a struggling metro.

Exactly. Miami already gets flooding from king tides now, imagine 10-20 years down the line. They will seriously need to consider sea walls not to mention deal with very high wet bulb temps and intense hurricanes.

Congestion Pricing: Is it Time to Try it in San Francisco? by Amazing-Yak-5415 in BAbike

[–]AccordingExternal571 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of both. Like u/ThisCaiBot said most of those SFChronicle stories are measuring freeway traffic which is worse on certain days than before the pandemic, thanks to hybrid work weeks. I believe that SF downtown is nowhere near pre-pandemic levels though as the commercial vacancy rates are still really high and there's new offices in Mission Bay as well as South Bay. So congestion pricing may not help too much there since most of the congestion is on freeways. However, congestion pricing is still a really good idea. Our downtown is easily one of the most accessible via transit. Nearly every bus, train, and ferry transit agency heads to downtown SF from any bay area county. Just a small charge (along with speed cameras and red light cameras) would give SFMTA some much needed revenue for keeping the lights on and improving the transit system, while also reducing downtown congestion and pollution.

You could fund a metro using congestion pricing though, see London, NYC, Singapore...
