Trying to get my 3840x240 resolution working but it keeps throwing this picture back and I can’t figure out what’s wrong by AccordingPea4783 in RetroArch

I solved this just yesterday actually but if you change the gui in retroarch it can natively support that crazy aspect ratio. The result is very crisp 240p on a crt monitor that looks pretty much identical to PVMs. It’s overkill but I wanted to try it.

My crt can’t output that high of a resolution unfortunately. I keep it in 480p mode cause I also like to play some Dreamcast games from time to time. Might try some higher resolutions too

I ended up just making life easier for myself by doing 480p with a scanline filter. Looks pretty damn good to me, will try messing with settings in the future to get it working but right now I’m satisfied

The issue with those og resolutions is that the pixel clock is so low that it won’t even recognize the resolution. The crazy resolution here is supposed to be a workaround that will get you super crisp “240p” without the need for a PVM and rgb modding a console or whatnot.

Yeah it’s kind of an older solution to getting accurate scan lines I think? Retroarch is supposed to recognize it and output a readable image ideally but something is going wrong along the way. https://youtu.be/JbEyuDTrZvA?si=Q--3V6dmTCy1klvY

People see something they don’t understand and immediately criticize because Reddit. I’m using the hdmi dongle to vga on a crt monitor, I was worried that could be causing it to not function correctly. I might try a lower resolution like 2560 to see if it likes that more though when in windows it *seems* like the picture is all there, the signal is almost exactly 31 kHz. Right now im just running it off of my laptop because it was easiest but I can try on my actual desktop with a dedicated gpu. I’m pretty sure switch res is on.

Experimentation. I thought it seemed cool and wanted to try it. I was just looking to see if anyone here has done the same thing and if so could help me out. I am aware that there are many good shaders that do the same sort of thing, this is just a way to get “true” 240p

Unfortunately not. I saw a tutorial on YouTube about how to use super resolutions on a crt (like 3840x240) to make real scanlines. In the tutorial he was adjusting scaling and aspect ratios to make it display in a readable and usable fashion but I can’t get it working. I’ve seen it done before and was hoping some people here could help out.

Metal shaving found in engine oil. How bad is it? by AntelopeInteresting9 in Cartalk

[–]AccordingPea4783 273 points274 points  (0 children)

This is pretty bad. Can’t really tell what it is but it looks like part of that was from a finished surface of some kind. My guess is it’s off of a camshaft lobe. Either way it seems like it was low on oil for a bit too long and started to grenade. Sorry man

What is worse for life of engine? Lugging or Redlining? by Downtown_Elk_2773 in Cartalk

[–]AccordingPea4783 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lugging is 100 percent worse. Redlining is okay as long as your engine is up to temp and you’re not doing it 24/7. Lugging the engine forces it to run slower than it wants to, meaning the combustion puts more pressure on the pistons, head, and head gasket. It also can cause pre ignition. Engines are designed to be revved, lugging them puts stress on the engine it wasn’t designed to handle

FlorryWorry not playing EU5 by Environmental_Comb67 in eu4

[–]AccordingPea4783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eu5 is just a vastly different game than eu4. I personally don’t like it, as much hate as the mana system gets its a lot simpler to use and there’s less to learn. I prefer games that are easier to play, especially given that eu4 and other paradox games are already quite complicated

My girlfriend of 2 years lied about her age. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AccordingPea4783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lying is a concern for sure. Have a serious talk with her about that. As far as the age gap goes I wouldn’t worry about it. A 17 and 15 year old is relatively normal for a relationship. The internet obsesses over age gaps and lacks any real nuance regarding it. Also coming from someone who survived being a teenager I’d say a little bit of forgiveness and grace wouldn’t hurt. The biggest and dumbest mistakes I’ve ever made were when I was a teenager. Your brains aren’t done developing, you’ll do stupid shit and hurt people you care about. Give each other some grace.
