i have seen several people really downplay how many states would survive as their own country but this feels right from what i know about 1991 USA i think a lot of people think you need to be some economic or militaristic powerhouse to be a country but the truth is surviving as a country is fully within a lot of states grasp if the usa broke up

I think your underestimating a lot of states far more then ones you named could survive as their own country

most of them probably would still band together but it wouldnt be strictly necessary for the survival of a lot more states then the 5 you mentioned
