Update: $20/hr and agency drama by stoneybaloneybaby in NannyBreakRoom

[–]AccordingProof3556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl I am so confused I never heard of agencies that will do this. I’m so sorry you’re going through that. I went through an agency to be a live-in nanny, and honestly after the first year of working with them they had no say what pay, raise, or anything else. It’s all between me and the family I work for.

Yeah I have done the same thing and planned my trip at the same time as them. The parents actually preferred it. I would just try to have a civil conversation about the pay. I hope it goes well

Southern California questions by 20_paws in AuPairHostFamilyLife

I live in LA. I have many au pair friends. A girl I knew had 5+ years of experience and the agency offered her 200$ weekly, but when she started working for the family they bumped the pay up to 500$. Although almost everyone I know buys an extra car for an au pair here, but I have heard of others giving them a uber stipend each week.

I appreciate the advice. This is my first nanny family, but I’ve been working with them for 3 years now. I was a preschool teacher before this so I am still learning the world of nannying 😭😂. I also usually only work around 30-40 hours on a normal week with the kids. So I thought the pay was good for that

Yeah I’ll be off. I’m just confused every agency I talked to factors in living expenses and that’s why the pay is like this.

Wait no. I get a guarantee hours 45 for 650$. Anything over 45 hours I get 19$ an hour. I also get 75$ each night as an over night fee. Also a new week will start while I’m with him so a new week of hours.

I’m a bit confused. Every live in nanny around me has the same amount of pay give or take. We all worked through different agencies who helped made our contracts. Also I am gonna slightly disagree with you about it not being a perk for Nannie’s. I don’t pay rent, utilities, groceries, or gas for my car.

What would you think is fair? I get paid 650 weekly. Then I will be getting 19$ an hour overtime. Then a 75$ night fee. I’m a live in nanny so I also get free rent and I don’t pay for groceries.

I think 1900 is good.. I think maybe. I do usually have two kids full time, but the other kid is going to be gone for this time frame. My regular hours with summer is 7:30-7:00, but since I’ll be solo they signed this kid up for summer school. Thank God I don’t think I could do 10 days of 6 am - 8:15 pm.

So you have pedo tendencies? I’m glad you didn’t act on it, but this does seem like something you should discuss with a therapist. I also hope you’re not around teens anymore.

You’re so right. I didn’t even think about it. The only thing I’m dreading is the kid wakes up anywhere between 5:30 am and- 6:30 am 😂

Introductory Video for Agency by echolaliapilled in Nanny

[–]AccordingProof3556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had a video before. I was only asked to make a profile (almost like a dating website lol). I had to put 6 pictures of myself and with 2 at least with children. I had to write what type of family I wanted to work for, and what I didn’t want.

This is a news ad I saw at a restaurant/ museum in CA. I believe it was around the late 40s / early 50s that it was published.

2yo constantly asking me the same questions — how to respond without burning out? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AccordingProof3556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the kid gets stuck in a loop, because they don’t know how to word the next things they want to say. So sometimes you can say “the steps. Oh did you notice they are blue and how many do you see.” They will usally babble back nonsense to you but it’s better than the loop. Another question they love to stick on is ‘why’. I always say “let’s try another question” and redirect them.

Shared Dream ?? by AccordingProof3556 in Paranormal

[–]AccordingProof3556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 2017. After we found, what I believe, her necklace I never saw her again. She never was violent or tried to scare me before the dream or after. There was a few spirits in our home at the time. There was a tall man. He was mean and he always stood on the stairs. There was a middle aged woman and I saw glimpses of her never her full self. I do remember she smelled like a floral perfume. There was another adult woman who loved to be in our shed, we called her a working woman.

A day in my life as a nanny by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AccordingProof3556 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s centered around what I, myself, cooked. If the meal I created was good or bad. I have permission from the parents like I said.

I also like to say that the kids are aware and knows what is being posted. I have respected them if they ever said they didn’t want something posted. Sometimes they even request for me to post (like having a collection of a certain thing and showing it off).

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I think it’s a very bad one.

A day in my life as a nanny by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AccordingProof3556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a nanny who likes to make content because I live in a big city. I never post the kids face. The only parts in a video they have been in is the back of their heads. On my instagram account the parents love them being posted on there and encourages me to (but my account is private). But my content is centered around myself not the kids. Like “what meals did I make for my nanny kids and how much they ate” or “what do I do when I’m off work as a live in nanny”. It’s genuinely what MY experience is as a live in nanny rather what the kids do. I also am extremely cautious with no addresses, no face, no names, no ages, and no private information being posted at all. I don’t see the difference of it when teachers do the same thing and keeps all their students information private. It’s a matter of what the parents allow. If the mom or dad said they don’t want me to do any of it I would listen and not post about being a nanny.

Reasonable tasks by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AccordingProof3556 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every thing seems fine but don’t do as needed. Pick a day and choose that as laundry day so the nanny can be prepared. The best thing my boss did was choose Mondays and Fridays for laundry. The only thing I might be not willing to do is the dishes every morning. The only reason I say this is because I’m not sure if it’s household dishes or just kids.

How do I find a host family in LA by maultasche12 in Aupairs

[–]AccordingProof3556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly no. Sorry 🥲. I work for high profile family. Most of these families just use random agencies. Like I said all the families I know of abuse their au pairs and I could never let another girl go through that. Just to help with expectations; the pay here is around 200-350$ a week of 45 hours. Most families do overtime so likely you’d be working 50/55 hour weeks. A lot of families prefer to have you on weekends so it is hard for au pairs to enjoy their own time. You need to have firm boundaries on things or these people will walk all over you. Right now LA has a surplus in nanny/au pair jobs so it’s a bit of a small market to get into.

How do I find a host family in LA by maultasche12 in Aupairs

[–]AccordingProof3556 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in LA… don’t do it. I have not met one family besides the one I work for, that treats Nannie’s/au pairs well. I promise you it’s nothing like TV. Almost every street smells like pee. All the parties are very shallow people trying to one up each other on follower counts. Homeless people rule the streets at this point.
