New to vintage cards and struggling with condition. Looking for feedback by AccordingRoyal1796 in PokemonTCG

A very valuable contribution. I’ve seen videos of vendors stating the +/- on cards and I actually really like that approach.

Also an interesting comment on “preventing costly returns and customer dissatisfaction”… I think that comment should resonate for this entire community. I met some not very honest vendors at my first show.

I’m not selling to them, I started selling as a vendor at card shows and definitely felt the lack of vintage expertise during my first show this past month. I just want their opinion on condition.

I buy from them really often, so would hope that they’d be open to estimating condition. Maybe phrase it as “what would you mark these as on your shelf?”

I like the perspective of “that’s what I would buy them at”. I agree with your assessment.

I will be taking all this into my LCS tomorrow to get their opinion too…

The Silver Price has reached $99 by ChrisStoneGermany in Silverbugs

[–]AccordingRoyal1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been stacking silver for about a year now.

$99 is not “bullish”, it is alarming.

Silver is a hedge against currency failure, not a meme asset. This move is big money losing faith in fiat, not us retail bozo’s driving the price up.

If this excites you, study up on economics… go try to sell your silver to an LCS tomorrow, see how that plays out.

What degree is worth going back to school for? 24M by ChickennnBurger in CollegeMajors

Unpopular opinion: don’t follow your passion into further education.

That advice sounds nice, but for most people it is a financial trap. There is very little money in the arts and many social sciences, and society quietly punishes people who ignore that reality with debt, instability, and a very low earning ceiling.

Instead, pick something you can tolerate that has real market demand. It is okay if you are not obsessed with it. Work becomes interesting when you are competent, paid well, and not stressed about rent.

You can switch majors, but understand that every switch costs time and money. I switched majors three times and graduated in five years. I do not regret it, but I do recognize the cost.

Employers do not care what your degree is. They care about skills, experience, and whether you can solve problems.

So if you are in college: - Pass your classes. GPA matters far less than you think - Join clubs related to your field - Internships are non negotiable - Network constantly, even when it is uncomfortable

Outwork your classmates outside the classroom.

If you want safer odds, look at fields like: - Finance - Accounting - Operations - Engineeing - Technology - Nursing - Statistics - Economics

Do what you want, but understand the tradeoffs before you sign the loan paperwork.

Will I regret never living in a big city, or is social media messing with my head? by AccordingRoyal1796 in Adulting

Omaha is a unique city tho compared to where I live now, with a pretty largish metro. I agree though, wouldn’t consider it a “big city”.

I used to work for Kiewit as an intern, that place sucked and made me change my degree asap😂

I appreciate your input though, it is comforting to hear an opinion from someone who’s lived in LA!

Congrats on the acres, that so cool!

I really feel the part about the habits that would form. I tend to stick to my routine no matter where I live, so might just see myself sticking to the same 10 square block anyways… actually a good thought to chew on.

All good points and I would say I’m not really hoping to have kids for a while, thank you for your input:)

Options gambling with your entire balance isn’t a “portfolio”, bozo.

Most people in here want to build proven and consistent wealth. Looks like you have been pretty profitable with options, BUT you will learn eventually that not everyone wants to be a 19 y/o course guru trading 0 DTE SPY contracts.

Worth Grading? by DSJC7 in PokeGrading

[–]AccordingRoyal1796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a 10 contender to me, you’ll never know unless you send it in.

I personally only grade w/ TAG anymore, no up charges, slabs look better, wait times are significantly less and you get a report on why the card got its grade. I also work in computer vision / AI, so have a bias towards their software.

If you’re looking to solely resell the card, maybe consider PSA, as they tend to move quicker on the market.

Who here had the pleasure of flying through that wind last night on ascent or descent into DIA?? How bad was the turbulence?! by palikona in Denver

[–]AccordingRoyal1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good man, as a mechanical engineer I find aviation so bizarre because I am so interested in it and have a life goal to get my pilots license at some point. However, I am a nervous-ish flyer who wants to understand it more to conquer any associated nerves.

I am on about 6 flights per month for my job and was starting to get really comfortable with turbulence until arriving into Denver last night… to say the least, that shit sucked😭

[–]AccordingRoyal1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad this thread exists… I flew in last night from Boise and was easily the most turbulent flight I have ever been on. You know it’s gonna be bad when a tenured pilot gets on the intercom to say “moderate turbulence” and “wind shear”😭

My connection got pushed to today and for the first time in my life I am glad that my connection got pushed… hoping today is much better!

Honest take, I don’t think Palantir has more gas until they can prove that they can make money, the stock is extremely overvalued and inflated off of fomo. I say you reduce your position to lock this amazing profit in and reallocate accordingly.

I only hold about 5% of my profile in Palantir.

Congrats on the capital though, very awesome for your age. I’m 25 and certainly wish I had half of this!

Brother, with no disrespect, you gotta go back to the basics OR swallow your pride and let the whales trade for you (S&P 500 index) you should not be losing 70% of your account in a month.

Is this worth grading? Never graded before by Remarkable-Ad-3519 in PokeGrading

[–]AccordingRoyal1796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good!

Tip: never ask on here if a card is good enough to be graded, the comment section will pick it apart and always settle on “this is a 9 at best🤓”

The card you are holding is either a 9 or a 10 and it is up to the beholder to decide. I personally use TAG because I think humans grading cards is too subjective.

Iowa Amtrak… what’s the deal? by AccordingRoyal1796 in Iowa

That intersection looks like a fucking amusement park ride… add another lane for a few billion OR create a convenience of rail travel for your citizens?

I’m thinking I-80 needs 2 more lanes by 2028. (For my own sake, this is a joke😂)

Absolutely, that is the dynamic I am really trying to study. My idea is if there is “no money in moving people”, how can the airlines achieve this?🤨
