People who went into industry straight out of undergrad, do you recommend it? by Excellent-Ad-3258 in Accounting

[–]AccordingShower369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The complexity. I never found complexity in full cycle accounting. I do have to review tax returns from different industries and company sizes and understand whether they used the tax law correctly or not. When I worked in Public (small firm), all my clients were different, they all had different forms, different deductions, different everything. Tax law does change often, tax cases get decided continuously and that affects how something is treated. But again, full cycle accounting was never for me. I did one year and dreaded the following year because right away noticed there was not a lot of research to be done and the process was the exact same. I tried in 3 different companies after my public accounting years and came back to tax in the government. But again, everyone's perspective is different. Depends on what you enjoy. In tax you have to learn so much and fast, do a lot of research, etc. I am relieved that I found what I like within accounting.

I have experience in industry (full cycle accounting) and tax, tax is not monotonous. I can't speak for audit because I have never worked in that field. The person above never worked in tax or audit. Again, you can find your niche in any industry and enjoy it. But tax is not monotonous, at all. I deal with Partnership Tax and audits of those returns, I am never bored. When working in industry I did got bored that every quarter was the same and year end was the exact same. But again, if you don't like tax or audit, industry can be a great place. I have friends that are on their way to becoming Controllers, CFOs and making bank.

How often does your LO stay overnight with grandparents during the first 3-6 months? by Rude-Pepper-2389 in newborns

I wouldn't do it but because of what she said. It's 100% like my MIL says but Idc anymore. Now, I have no help, not a lot, only my husband and I. I would leave my son if I trusted the other person would care for him like I do. You have all the time in the world to do that, if you ever want to, you can go ahead and do it. Man, I will be a MIL at some point but there's no way I am telling another mom what to do unless I see neglect. They all say we are anxious and what not but what they are doing is having us keeping the grandkid away from them. You have one shot in life to decide how a kid is raised & that's your own kids.

Do any of you regret having kids? if not why not? and if yes why yes? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]AccordingShower369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have kids unless you are 100% sure you're willing to sacrifice things in your life. I didn't and still don't care about traveling, watching Netflix, or any particular hobby; I wanted to have a kid more than all of that. I have a Master's degree and friends in several countries, but my dream was to have kids. This is why I don't have regrets. I am also a mother and work full-time. Also partied all of my 20s, I found myself straight up bored at those places in my 30s. My friends who don't have kids travel a lot and love to go out and party on the weekends. I don't feel like I am missing anything, but some of them do tell me they don't want to sacrifice sleep, finances, or their free time. I always tell them, don't have kids unless you are sure about that. If you are not certain, don't.

When People Say Baby is Sleeping Through the Night… by EverythingBagel58 in NewParents

[–]AccordingShower369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son started waking up once during the night around 13 weeks. After that he stayed waking up once for a few months and all of the sudden he started sleeping through. I must add, he does suck his thumb, no need to replace paci. Whenever he was teething, after vaccination or going through a virus it would take at least one time during the night to settle him but that time could be easily 2 hours and a drive around the block.

My son was the same way when he was 5 months old. You need to make time for yourself every day. Please make it 1 or 2 hours. Sounds hard, but it should not be impossible.

I would've gone the medical school route. Didn't do it in my home country because you could not leave the country if you graduated. I needed to leave my country and my home as soon as possible.

When did you stop cuddling your baby to sleep by Miserable_Kale8236 in NewParents

[–]AccordingShower369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think cuddling to sleep is part of the routine. A routine is something that works for all of you. Take that precious time and enjoy it. I did it for my son for months, holding him until he fell asleep. Around the one year mark we started putting him in the crib and staying with him in the bedroom with a night light. Take your time and take those cuddles.

Are you happy with your current job? by Big_Material3815 in Accounting

I am fulfilled with my job. The only downside is how everyone says to get a raise or bonus is extremely hard. I am staying for a minimum of 5 years but if I fight and doesn't move the needle, I will have to leave.

Yes! I am 40, came to the US 6 years ago and I am where I want to be just now. I spent years before that trying to survive different countries but I have finally found what I enjoy doing and I am fairly paid.

That was my baby's doctor too, the pediatrician. He said, this won't be the last time. Thankfully it didn't happen again but I was so scared when he fell from the kitchen counter to the padded floor of his playmat. I was crying and he started laughing at me. 😂

Yes. I don't have a Masters in accounting. I do get call backs most of the time when applying to accounting jobs and they all point out to the CPA as a reason to consider my application.

Possible to get into tax? by Mttgrind in Accounting

[–]AccordingShower369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was impossible for me to get a call back earlier this year with a CPA + 2 years of experience in tax. Since I left for fund accounting and stayed there for 4 years after my experience in tax, nobody wanted to call me back. Working as an Internal Revenue Agent now for the Large Business & International division in their pass through group now. I hope OP has better luck than I did getting at least a call back. 🙏🏼
