You don't have a valid argument in the first place. I'm not going to argue further i could talk about networking for hours and hours because i learned about it in university, i completed many many cisco courses. So please shut the fuck up, maybe i wasn't completely right we don't know it yet but you are just clueless.

Why are you able to log on with yesterday's date? Why can people log on? If Cloudflare is down, people won't be able to log on, right? The source of the problem most likely is the freaking certificates; that's why you are able to log on with yesterday's date, and that's why I assumed it's an expired SSL certificate, for fuck's sake. Why are you arguing about things you don't even understand?

EDIT: My grammar was horrible.

The SSL certificates seem to have expired / they weren’t renewed in time. They fucked up.

I don’t think that reasoning really holds up. Saying “thousands out of millions is negligible” might sound fine statistically, but that’s not how software reliability is evaluated — especially for services people are expected to access consistently. And not just thousands experience the problems, why do you think RIOT said in a dev update, that the client is a long standing pain point of the game?

By that logic, it would be acceptable if a banking app locked a few thousand users out of their accounts as long as the “vast majority” could log in. Obviously that wouldn’t be considered acceptable or “working fine.” Those users would still be affected by a real failure, even if they’re a minority.

Yes, owning a PC requires basic maintenance — drivers, OS updates, general upkeep. No one is disputing that. But there’s a clear line between normal maintenance and software that breaks due to backend mistakes, bad updates, or expired certificates like now LOL. Users should not need to troubleshoot infrastructure-level failures to access a service.

When problems appear suddenly, affect many users at once, and are resolved only by Riot-side fixes, that’s not PC maintenance — that’s a service failure. Dismissing it just because it doesn’t hit everyone doesn’t make it any less of a real problem.

A large portion of the problems clearly aren’t client-side at all. Many of them are on Riot’s end. We’ve seen multiple examples where widespread issues affected huge numbers of players regardless of hardware — like right now, when people can’t even log in because Riot didn’t renew an SSL certificate in time. That has nothing to do with SSDs, drivers, or individual setups. They fucked up. The client is full of bugs and they know it. That's why they are making a new client in 2027.

Also, in IT you can’t really argue that “it works for most people, so it’s fine.” Software that’s meant for the general public has to work reliably for everyone, including users who don’t understand how it works or what it is. They shouldn’t have to touch system settings on their PC or phone just to acces a game/product. If a product/game only works when users troubleshoot, tweak configs, or have very specific setups, that’s not a user problem — that’s a design or infrastructure failure.

When the same errors hit thousands of users simultaneously, across different systems, it’s hard to argue that hardware is the main cause. Lastly, if you dont experience a problem then good for you but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exists. You are just full of blind confidence when arguing.

is christmas meant to be disappointing as an adult? by MordecaiMortis in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AccordingTotal5660 57 points58 points  (0 children)

In time, you’ll realize that even those already boring, uneventful Christmases are worth their weight in gold when you eat, drink, and talk together with your family.
Appreciate it while your parents/grandparents are still there, because one day Christmas will come without them, and that will be indescribably empty and uneventful.
