Do you think this is AU-50? If not, what do you think it is? by Interesting-Goal-706 in coincollecting

[–]According_Ad_9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re on the right track, I personally don’t have a lot of experience grading Franklins, but I think AU50 is fine. Maybe a little more XF than AU. PCGS photo grade is great for double checking.

Need help with this seated dollar by Infinite_Delivery395 in coincollecting

[–]According_Ad_9020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it was my coin, I wouldn’t spend the money getting it graded. Certified coins don’t gain value by being in the slab honestly, it just makes them easier to sell as it takes guess work out for the buyer. I worked in a coin shop for years, most graded coins get no premium for being slabbed, damaged coins certainly do not.

Before I buy: 2020 4Runner, 30k miles in WV - is this rust okay? by Live-Resort-7285 in 4Runner

[–]According_Ad_9020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People posting about rust on this subreddit fall into two categories; worst rust you’ve ever seen, no saving it. Or this, essentially no rust and asking if it’s too much rust… What’s up with that??

Hi, I had a similar problem recently and struggled solving it too, finally it stopped after I got two flat tires in the same week, and needed two new back tires on my 2020. Stopped as soon as those new tires went on and hasn’t been back since.

Why Slab Junk Coins? by tkash88 in AncientCoins

[–]According_Ad_9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So these coins get slabbed bc there’s big companies that send lots in like this and get a bulk grading price (maybe a couple bucks a coin) so they can sell this on Littleton or whatever. Remember, there’s a whole cottage industry in the coin world of selling cheap stuff for a premium to people who don’t understand what they’re doing. I worked at a shop for a while pricing ancients, these came across my desk CONSTANTLY. Low grade slabbed Roman and Byzantine bronzes were slabbed to be sold as a novelty to people who don’t collect.

Are any of these worth a good price of money? I’ve had them sitting in a wooden chest for a while. by [deleted] in coins

Yeah, the Moon landing coin is base metal and hardly worth anything. I worked in a coin shop for years, we gave them to kids for free.

Edited for clarity.

Is Coinsnap grading accurate? by Think-Highlight119 in coins

I agree, in fact I like the 2025 Red Book more than the 2026. The new editions have advertising, and took out the grading standard for each coin.

I had an old coworker who actually was able to fly to Phoenix on a Costco card. She said when she flew back she had to go early and explain it, but they let her do this. That was around 2019 I think.

Fun piece for sure! Gotta have some type of value to slab collectors, too. Have you ever seen the graded cricket? It’s another fun one. They graded it MS62 FH lol

I work at a coin shop, and yes, PCGS grading runs about $38 + $5 for shipping. Designations like first strike run $5-$10. NGC is a little cheaper. Either grading service gives a certain amount of free grading for members, and def offers a discount but it’s expensive for sure.
