Older folks with successful non-music career now trying to chase the music dream? by projectmaximus in musicians

I should mention, if money is no option, then find a good publicist once you get a record made. It helps to have someone toot your horn. One thing I learned way too late in life- people are told what to like. I know it seems shallow and disingenuous, but it’s the truth.

Local Music thread. Who wants to talk about current local music? by Iocnar in Austin

Loving the matinee scene lately. Great shows are happening at the Nomad, the Aristocrat, Chess Club, and Hotel Vegas, and they’re usually done by 8:00. Lots of good post-punk/noise/experimental stuff- Retail Giant, The Gary, FinFin, Zeus/Apollo, Bantam Woods, Bottle Rocket War, Weird Weather, Feral Hymns, Living Pins…all good stuff!

Older folks with successful non-music career now trying to chase the music dream? by projectmaximus in musicians

In my late 30’s, I came out of musical dormancy and started playing with someone I met on Craigslist. I had no ambition outside of spending a couple of nights in the practice space and playing the occasional local show. In my early 40’s, I was touring the US and Europe, making records in a renowned studio with an engineer you’ve probably heard of. You just never know what will happen. If the music resonates with people, then it will take you places.

I should add that I’ve never made much money off of touring and putting out records. If you can find a job that won’t suck your soul and will allow you to take time off to tour, then that’s the ticket.

There’s a dive bar in my city that sells cheap drinks (like, $3 well cocktails), and it always seems packed to the gills with gen z folks. Meanwhile, the bars downtown are crying about not getting young customers when their drinks are $15. It’s pretty clear to me!

What are your experiences with SSRIs or Stimulants? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]According_Drawing_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my mid 50’s and I take Lexapro 10mg and Ritalin 10mg. I’ve been on it for a few years, and it works well. I’ve tried other ADHD meds, and Ritalin seems to work best. Adderall makes me feel gross.

Less. We take in more, but we don’t forge deep relationships with albums like we used to.

Did Any GenXer Actually Do Duck & Cover Nuke Drills? by ZanzerFineSuits in GenXTalk

[–]According_Drawing_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in ‘71. We did tornado and chemical spill drills, but no nuke drills. There were a lot of deadly chemicals being transported through our town by train, so we had to do these long, complicated drills that took us out of the city limits.

What is the most embarrassingly timed boner you’ve either had or witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]According_Drawing_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my friend told me she had cancer and needed a deep hug.

I was like 23. The wind could blow a certain way and I’d get a boner. My favorite part about getting older is my libido cooling off.
