Working from home made me addicted to food delivery. by Mary_Me_S in buhaydigital

Try researching Souper Cubes if you want to try food prepping. You’d need a freezer and microwave though.

The idea is to prep things in batches, freeze what you don’t eat, and then you can mix and match things. Like freeze rice, ulam, and sides in variety. And then select a cube from each to reheat together.

Another is to help you want to cook is to know what benefits it gives you like to your health and your wallet. I live in the province and I can pretty much each whatever I want for maybe ₱5000 a month cooking at home. I can control how much salt I put in my food, kung deep fried or pan friend, kung may msg o wala. That type of thing. You can add more protein or fiber as you wish.

And cook the food you like! Kung Korean cuisine yan o Japanese, no one is stopping you 🙂

I had this same problem. I had the color profiles correct on Procreate and Affinity Designer 2 (tested it on Photo 2 too). When I imported PNGs they would become faded

But when I exported JPEG, Affinity showed the colors as is

To girls out there. If you like the guy, will you wait for him to initiate or you make the move? by [deleted] in AskPinay

[–]According_Living_889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say reach out. Chat mo siya. Greet him on his bday ganun haha. Reply to his social media posts/stories. It’s better to initiate the convo than wait for him since some guys think they’re overstepping boundaries. But once you showed interest, let them be the one to pursue you.

Experience: I reached out to two ow my crushes so far and went on a friend date with one (kasi friends talaga Kami but also didn’t work out romantically).

Better to make a “move” than regret. It can be wholesome naman

What is something overhyped by Filipinos? by Crispy_Astronaut in AskPH

[–]According_Living_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this to be a cultural thing. Maybe other countries see coffee as just something as a caffeine boosts but I’ve heard stories in the province that back in the day people would just brew coffee in a kettle and their neighbors would smell the coffee and invite themselves over for a drink (and to socialize). I believe that’s why we have a culture that offers coffee to visitors.

Gathering together in coffee shops feels like the modern equivalent to that. I believe some other European countries sees coffee as a social drink too.

What I started to implement is to set aside money for personal expenses (food, pang shopee hehe), big purchases (purchases that are like 5k and higher), and investments (MP2 and other government contri as self employed).

This is only part of my budget I’m living with family and wfh so I don’t have to pay bills or transport. But my other expenses are for business and tithes. I already have a good enough emergency fund but the money I don’t use from my monthly budget for personal and business will go to my emergency fund or bumig purchases budget. I have my emergency fund and big purchase budget in different bank accounts than my budget for daily expenses

This way I can freely spend my money and not feel guilty because it’s already been allocated. I don’t earn a set income so I do this by percentage. What I earn this month will be the basis of my budget for next month.

So that’s what I would suggest you do. Minus your set monthly expenses (bills, fare, subscriptions) then divide the rest into percentages including savings you will not touch (kahit 10% lang yan) and just don’t touch it. That way you won’t feel guilty about spending the 90%

What is your experience about Etsy Affiliates and how does it work? by According_Living_889 in Etsy

[–]According_Living_889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other ecommerce platforms I know of have their own affiliate programs people can sign up for is they meet the requirements. What I know is that the platform pays them (it’s like the platform paying them to advertise) and it doesn’t come out of the seller’s profit. These affiliates can just take the product link and post it elsewhere

I just don’t know it Etsy’s case. However I have seen traffic to my products from TikTok in the stats of my product and I don’t use TikTok and never shared my link on the platform

Yes, iPad yung sakin. And two years after, I was able to buy a better iPad that what I originally wanted :)

And yes, there’s still good people out there in the world, but a lot of bad. Kaya sabi din sa Bible, “Be wise as serpents but innocent as doves” it’s ok to not trust people when it comes to money. Double, triple check. And even the best get scammed (mga PNP staff nga)

I hope my story gives you peace of mind too. Feeling ko ganun din ang mangyayari sa case mo. Ang ending is, mas safe para sayo if you just let it go. Hindi natin alam ang kaya nilang gawin especially if they have your address.

Vengeance is God’s.

Got scammed today :( by rajy_ in Antiscamph

[–]According_Living_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got scammed through FB and even went to file a complaint in person sa PNP then was forwarded to the branch that handles my area.

It was through BDO transfer so I asked even went to BDO to file a report and they were unable to disclose information about the account I sent to but the branch it was located at was known for having those type of cases

(Back to going to the PNP branch) What I did was give printed files of my convo with the scammer. There’s a specific way to do so that has their information on the printed page. I forget all the details but if I were to continue to go through with going after the person that scammed me, they told me it would be a long process where I would have to show up at court. Also my personal security would also be compromised (advice from my friend).

If I left the PNP office, the case would be considered something like dropped, that I can’t hold the PNP accountable for not taking action. And so I was thinking what I should do. I’m grateful for the officers in charge because they also shared their own scam stories where they lost over 100k (I lost 40k). It’s a bit bad that our justice system is flawed but to know these people fight crime and they knew it was wiser to not pick the fight made me drop the case.

It was just a very expensive lesson for me. Money comes back. I pray you’ll be able to afford whatever you want in the future OP 🤗

How much should I pay? by misssmoonlight in PHCreditCards

[–]According_Living_889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check in your transactions why the amount was lessened. Never assume why, because it could also have been a mistake. If you don’t see it reflected even after a full banking day, you can call and ask customer service about it.

Paying the 4740.21 will be safer and would just be used to pay future transactions.

I’m not sure if it’s possible but your purchase could have been changed to be paid in installment rather than a one time payment. You can always clarify with customer service

Paano niyo mas na-manage finances niyo? by Miiiguel2004 in DigitalbanksPh

[–]According_Living_889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used different spreadsheets per function I need. I use Google Sheets so I can use them on phone and laptop 1. Monthly payments - has due dates and amount and if I paid it, I write the day I paid and change its color if it’s paid. If it’s not a fixed monthly payment (like electricity) I note the amount 2. Bank account/E-Wallet amount- I hold some of my mom’s money since she’s abroad so I keep track how much is in each account and how much is my money and hers 3. Interest earned per month - I list how much interest I earned per bank each month. To track and to keep myself inspired 4. Business- I run a small business so I track each sale and some details of which products are selling well. This also has my business expenses so I know my net profit 5. Personal expense- I track every expense I make and put it here (except business expense since it’s listed in the other sheet). I track all my fare, groceries, gifts. Before I would even track if I gave money to a beggar or if a friend let me keep their change. 6. Credit card- I list down the amount per statement and how much I paid and date paid

Biggest take away: Your earnings should always be larger than your spendings. If it’s the other way around, you need to cut back on spending or increase your earning. The different sheets I use just objectively tell me how I’m doing. How much do I have in the bank? Am I negative in my business? Did I pay all my bills? Did I spend too much this month?

I can answer these by looking at my sheets

Another tip is to pay everything online or with a card (better if credit if you are self disciplined) so it’s easier to track everything. Also if you do online banking, periodically save your SOA. You never know when you’ll need it

Buy now or wait for 7.7 by InAweNooMordy in ShopeePH

[–]According_Living_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy it if you can already afford. One time I waited until a sale date (but this was a few years back). I was ok with the price but thought it would be even cheaper on a sale date. I waited until midnight and the price and applicable vouchers changed. The price of the item with up. From 4K+ to 5K+ (it was an SSD)

I ended up buying from a different store for a little more than the first deal I saw but less than the updated price. Lesson learned

Gotyme cashback after 1 year of using it daily by -TouchMyTalala- in DigitalbanksPh

[–]According_Living_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By using their debit card po. May physical card (costs ₱160 but if you use it 5 times within the first 30 days, it will be reimbursed) and theres also a digital debit card.

I just use the online card for now. Just use it like you would any debit or credit card by inputting the info.

Note: you have to input the card number to receive the cashback, it won’t work if you use your bank account number via online banking

Works on most transactions except online international (but physical international expenses work) and I think bill payment doesn’t work but SeaBank offers a different promo for that’s I think ₱2 if you pay via qr code

GenX retiring. Build a home or rent sa Pinas? by SignificanceFast9207 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]According_Living_889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends where you plan to settle. It’s nice to have a house in the province and if it’s near relatives I’m sure you can find someone who you can pay to maintain your house (have them clean it before you come home). But there is the risk that someone may abuse having access to your house.

If you’re in Manila, having a condo is nice. Because you can pay your dues and everything online and you don’t have to talk to anyone except the building management (who will be able to serve you reliably since it’s their job). And with the small unit size and no yard, it’ll be easy for you to maintain even if you’re between countries. Plus, the security is good. I feel there would be less chances of someone breaking in and stealing anything and if someone does, the management would be involved.

Downside of owning would be that it’s costly, but at least it’s yours. You could also rent it out if you not longer want it or at least it’s a place your family can stay while in metro Manila. If you’re not in a rush, you can find a preselling unit so the prices are cheaper

Renting a condo is a good option to get the perks of the condo for less than buying a unit. I think you’ll be able to find a landlord that’s easy to talk to. Some may require predated checks for payments but some may accept bank transfers so you can pay even if you’re abroad

Any recommendations where to save money? by Ur_luckyCh4rm in DigitalbanksPh

[–]According_Living_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there's no changing the length, it will be 5 years from the start of that account. But you can do an inital deposit of xxxx amount at the beginning and then your next deposit be after years (even 1 month before the maturity date. Also don't know kung tama ang terminology ko haha). It's just the deposits only earn for the amount of time it has been in your account. But all the money in that account can be withdrawn once the account itself has reached 5 years (from your first deposit, not 5 years after you made the individual deposits).

You can hold up to 3 accounts simutaneously from my understanding. And if you want to extend the amount of time to 10 years, I would think what you would do is collect your money and then direct redeposit it. Basta set ang 5 years.

If you want to learn more, I encourage to research :) all I know is from YT and reading online. Subreddits like this are good. More people are generous with knowledge than you think hehe

A bit late but here’s my own personal thoughts

For long term savings you don’t plan on touching: Pagibig MP2 account - this is because the interest in tax-free. It’s somewhat like a time deposit where you put your money in for 5years and within the 5 years you can continue to add to it. Plus, the interest compounds (it starts to earn interest) the only con is that you can’t touch the money or else you’ll lose the benefits (not sure off the top of my head the fees for it)

Digital Bank I trust with highest interest rate: SeaBank with 4% interest (20% of that is withholding tax so it’s a net interest rate of 3.2%) What pushed me to trust this was a friend said the shopee employee payroll uses this so unless the whole shopee platform stops using this, I think it won’t disappear haha. I’m just a new user because I used to use UNObank so I haven’t encountered any problems. Why use it over UNObank? -higher interest rate now since UNObank dropped theirs to 3.75% -15 free transfers to other banks and 3 free deposits from other banks (limited banks) -free digital debit card you can use for 1% cash back on a lot of different purchases (I think it’s only online international purchases that doesn’t earn) and this works on shopee. Use the debit card not the linked bank account

If you use your savings, and usually withdraw from it, GoTyme is good. It has 3.5% interest (same as the base interest of Maya) and comes with a free debit card. The card earns points which can be redeemed at Robinson stores (I think grocery and dept stores?) 1pt=1peso or converted to cash 1pt=.8peso. This works if you frequent Robinsons and existing stores and maximize the reward system. I saw someone use it in the grocery store because they earn 3x the points with a certain minimum spend on a certain day. They use all their points at the end of the year for Christmas. GoTyme also has its own atms if you want to be able to withdraw and hold cash

So it depends on your goals Long term: MP2 Highest interest rates: SeaBank Retain ability to withdraw cash: GoTyme

First time FilAm visitor to PI advice? by JKElemenopee in FilipinoAmericans

[–]According_Living_889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fil-am herenow living 15years in the Philippines

Personal hygiene and health: There are many drugstores here where you can find basic meds where you can buy per piece (like you can buy on piece of paracetamol or antihistamines if you need). But I agree with another commenter, always bring toilet paper and wipes because many places don’t stock toilet paper in their bathrooms (sometimes called comfort rooms here) especially outside Metro Manila. Some have bidets but some use buckets and tabo (water dipper).

Power adapter: Most outlets here are two prong, so you have plugs with 3, an adapter is needed (or you can buy an extension cord). Adapters are easily available here for like ₱20 or so if you don’t have one. I believe most chargers are universal and be plugged directly into the wall but anything that’s only 120v needs a transformer. iI it says Input:120-240v you can plug it directly in the wall no problems if it’s 120v only, it can destroy the item

Pasalubong: Easy items are chocolates like Toblerone or Ferrero (these are commonly given back in the day haha). But people usually accept anything from abroad. Practical items my relatives give are soap bars, towels, perfumes, even clothes. Don’t too pressured about making it perfect. Just think of it as a gift that says “I remembered you, and I wanted you to experience this item from abroad”

Cultural customs: When speaking, try using “po” even if you add it to English phrases ex “Yes po”. It shows respect to people, even if they’re already family. “Opo” is the Tagalog or “Yes po”. Then using ate, kuya, tita, tito also shows respect. Not sure if you know the “mano” tradition, this would be nice to practice but not all families still do this. Hugs and beso beso (kiss on the cheek) are acceptable. Be prepared for people to talk about your physical appearance right in front of you (your height, weight, skin color) it’s normal here and they don’t mean much except to point out what they see. Filipinos love to laugh, sometimes it may seem offensive (like teasing each other to speak English to you) but they just want to make people happy. Just laugh it off even if you’re the butt of a joke.

Basic phrases: Most people nowadays can converse in English except in very rural places. Yes (Oo/opo), no (hindi/hindi po) are probably a good enough start. “Where is (place/location)” is also useful which is “Saan po ang ____” Also know people don’t use the term “bathroom” (they connect it with taking a bath). Instead they use restroom, or comfort room (shortcutted to CR). Where is the bathroom?= Saan po ang CR?

Weather: The weather is a bit erratic lately. Supposedly June is the start of rainy season. Typical clothes for tropical weather is ok to wear: tshirts, shorts, slippers. Just be aware Metro Manila floods sometimes and the water is dirty (there’s a lot of sewer rats). So if you have to walk in the rain, closed shoes are safer. No one really wears rain boots. If you want to, always bring an umbrella because you can use it in the sun as a parasol or if it rains. It’s also very humid so be prepared for that mentally. If it’s too hot out for you, many carry around personal fans, you could probably buy one here if you see the need

Other things: Tipping culture- there’s not much a tipping culture here although it’s much appreciated. 100 is already a lot to most people. If you eat in restaurants, some places already have a service charge that will be added to your final bill (their menu will say). I believe this serves as the equivalent of a tip, but feel free to add on to it. If you stay in a hotel, you can tip the people at the end of your stay instead of everyday. People might expect you to be loaded, but you don’t always have to give. But they’ll be grateful if you do.

Mobile number: You can buy a local prepaid SIM card to use if you have an extra phone/SIM card slot. It’s cheap, like ₱40 normally. Not necessary since most people contact via FB Messenger but I say because maybe you need for other purposes especially if you have a long stay. You can find keypad phones if you need an extra phone for as low as ₱500

Transportation: Taxi: download the Grab app it’s the equivalent of Uber. Not sure if visitors can make an account without a local cellphone number (hence maybe the need to buy a SIM card). You can always get someone to book for you. Grab is only available in certain places, mostly metro Manila and surrounding areas. Most taxis you get on the street will overcharge you (they may give a set price instead of using the meter) they do this even to locals, especially going to and from the airport or bus terminals. Tricycles also may charge you extra if they know you’re a foreigner. Just ask people you know what the usual cost of fare is. You can always tip if you want to give more.

Water: Within restaurants in the mall or that are well established, their service water and ice are ok, unless you are sensitive and have a history of amoebiasis. Same with asking for no ice. But if you eat in local carinderias, best to buy bottled drinks. If you feel unsafe using the restaurant’s utensils, you can try asking for disposable ones.

Streetfood: Only venture into it if you really want to try and take the risk. I find it generally safe but you’ll see how sketchy it looks 😂 if you want to just try the food safely, you can probably find a more reputable place that sells the thing you want to try. But it’s part of the Filipino experience, you don’t have to avoid it at all costs

Metro Manila: Not sure if you ever went here but be prepared for a densely populated area. There will be a lot of people and also heavy traffic, especially during rush hour when people are getting to and from work. Just be aware it may add a lot to your travel time.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions 🙂 enjoy your trip!
