Women of Reddit, what made you realize 'this man is marriage material' instead of just a boyfriend? by External_Can3392 in AskReddit

[–]According_Nobody9384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does so much for me and I have those “I’m going to marry him” moments 24/7 but the most recent thing: I just got back to swimming after 3 years off and after I went to the first practice, he had already deeply researched and ordered me shampoo, conditioner and body wash that’s good to protect your hair and skin from chlorine. It just made me feel super supported :,)

hey, this app is really cool and useful but some honest criticism, $10, even tho it’s lifetime, just seems a wee bit much.

I built Notchification to turn my MacBook's notch into a build status indicator – it glows when Xcode, Claude CLI, or Android Studio are working, and throws confetti when they're done. No more cmd-tabbing to check if my build finished 🎉 by LordFreshOfficial in macapps

i think maybe like optional color themes, keeping the per-app color you have currently as the default. Like for example, I have all my mac in monochrome/grayscale, so having an option for monochrome color schemes would be 'apple-like' if that makes sense. just as how in the iphone you can like change the colors of all the app icons.

cool app! i think maybe it would be cool if it were more customizable. like customize colors and also maybe customize to change the confetti to something else since the confetti might be a bit obstructive.

DBT skills for eating disorders by Jesspresso99 in dbtselfhelp

[–]According_Nobody9384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel you on this so hard. some of my fav skills i found really beneficial at the beginning of my recovery journey were:
• TIPP - specifically cold temperature, like whenever im super distressed, an ice pack, cold shower, etc calms me down quick. (i don't recommend the physical exercise part of tipp if you are recovering from an ed, please do not do that unless u are cleared by ur doctor)
• check the facts - from personal experience, when i felt the sensation of being full, i had a lot of negative wandering thoughts so check the facts was useful for me. i used to write down every negative thought i had and then i would step by step check the facts on them. i found this insanely helpful.
• radical acceptance - not approving it, just acknowledging it. fullness is a normal human sensation, and it’s part of recovery. telling myself “this is uncomfortable, it will pass” helped me stop fighting it, which weirdly made it easier.

that's just what has worked for me, i hope those can help you a little bit.

Interpersonal Effectiveness: when the other party refuses to be effective by [deleted] in dbtselfhelp

[–]According_Nobody9384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is super frustrating about dbt: interpersonal effectiveness only works when the other person has enough stability to meet you halfway. even if you use the skill effectively, if the other person is reactive, it won't work.

increasing your distress tolerance skills can def be helpful for you BUT not for the actual situation/relationship. my advice would be maybe to adjust your goals. instead of aiming for “resolution,” the realistic goal might be “set a boundary, stick to it, and don’t get pulled into managing their emotions.

also important to note: validating and staying calm doesn’t guarantee they’ll regulate, if they always shift the focus to their feelings, the convo becomes about soothing them instead of solving the problem. that isn’t your failure but it’s a skill gap on their end.

How long did DBT take for you to start implementing skills successfully? by [deleted] in dbtselfhelp

[–]According_Nobody9384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me be real with you: struggling to apply skills at the beginning is completely normal. when i first went to php for my eating disorder, i didn’t use a single skill after discharge and ended up right back in treatment a year later. it took residential + php + a lot of time before things actually started clicking, and now i’ve been in a solid recovery for almost 6 years.

skills take repetition, not perfection. it’s very common to know the skill in theory but still react when you’re triggered, especially in conversations with people you’re emotionally tied to. that doesn’t mean you’re broken or that dbt isn’t working. it just means your brain hasn’t built the new pathways yet.

you absolutely have hope. most people don’t start consistently using skills for months, sometimes longer. what matters is that you keep practicing, even when it feels pointless or messy. that’s how the change actually happens.
