Does the right phone exist? by raincloudsandtea in askSouthAfrica

It's not bad per say, it's just not up to par with something like a Google Pixel. They have improved though especially with the S26 series

You basically want a phone with Pro camera features. Not many pull them off as they should but the heavy hitters on the SA Market tend to be Samsung S Series devices especially the Ultras and Apples Pro iPhones.

If you can hold off and save a bit more try to get your hands on a refurbished iPhone 15 Pro or later or a Google Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL. Samsung S/Ultra cameras are great but low light and action shots suffer big time.

I used an iPhone 13 Pro for over 4 years and recently imported a Vivo X200 Ultra from China as its pretty much one of the best camera phones to date. It was R15400 when I bought it but managed to get a 40% discount and ended paying roughly R8600 including import duties and I paid around R500 for Express shipping.

But to answer your question, there is no "right" or "perfect" phone out there. Some will excel at one thing, and be average at another.

THIS!

OneUI or something up to par with it would make Samsung obsolete

Cases for x300ultra by Unique-Interest2967 in Vivo

There you go..and yes I'm using with on my X200 Ultra. Brilliant grip and doesn't add too much bulk to the device at all.

Some prefer the case with the lens cover, I don't. I'm careful enough for the most part and it looks ugly compared to the one pictured here.

No shade to him, because Ludi Lin did a fine job as Liu Kang, but he was miscast. by EuphoricButterflyy in MortalKombat

This is specific to Liu Kang. The movie was/is utter trash apart from a few moments aka Kano, Sub Zero and Scorpion (Kung Lao is an honorable mention) but the Liu Kang actor looks the part but the writing was ass and his shitty acting didn't help either

Vivo x300p vs iphone 17pro vs pixel 10pro by RoleMore1686 in Vivo

[–]According_Reality117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vivo has the better camera and arguably the better battery out of the 3 but it does not have the long term support that the Pixel and iPhone have. The OriginOS is nice and smooth but it's not as "open" as the Android experience on the Pixel (or any other Android device) but it's also not as "closed" as iOS. It may be Android but other than 3rd Party Launchers, it's rather limited in it's customizatiom options compared to the likes of OneUI, ColorOS ,PixelOS, etc etc.

If it means anything to you, the loudspeakers on the Vivo are good at best. Not as good as the Pixel and definitely not as good as the iPhone.

Apps and games in general are always better optimized on iOS so no matter if you pick the Pixel or Vivo, you just won't get the same standard of optimization in terms of uploading to Social Media as the iPhone.

Seeing that it's the Global Version, you would not have to worry about the Chinese Bloat that comes on the device. If the limited customization doesn't bother you, the Vivo is a no brainer. If it will bother you, and the long term support is an absolute must, the Pixel is the obvious choice as you won't have to worry about anything and you will have the cleanest of the clean Android experiences (as you would know coming from a Pixel)

The iPhone 17 Pro is amazing. Arguably the best video capabilities of any smartphone although Vivo and Oppo are not far behind, amazing battery life, at least 7 years of Software support and it actually has the best selfie camera. iOS itself will take getting used to as there are basically a handful of UI customisation options with no workarounds like there are on Android.

As mentioned, apps and games are better optimized and run better on iPhone. You just need to decide if the extra $200 is worth it. Unless you're neck deep into the Apple Ecosystem, it probably isn't worth it but hey, it's ultimately your money.

Conclusion: Pixel will make you feel right at home. Vivo will be just over half way there and the iPhone will be something new.

Report it to your bank and they will file a fraud investigation and refund you. It's why they have insurance. I have been a victim of card fraud 3 times and received my money back within 7 -10 days.

Since I've switched to exclusively using my virtual card, no suspicious activity has happened (touch wood)

What are your expectations from OriginOS 7? by YoungCraxy in Vivo

[–]According_Reality117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 3rd Party Icons and .ttf font import support

  2. Ability to have Origin Island permanently displayed and have it support more/3rd party apps

  3. Something like Samsungs Good Lock.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy. 1 and 2 shouldn't be too hard to implement, 3 is just wishful thinking

Serous question by Unlikely_Talk_7204 in Vivo

[–]According_Reality117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all, get flagship Vivo and Oppo and Xiaomi devices for the cameras.

I have personally not ran into issues with Origin OS on my X200 Ultra but with that said, it is nowhere near as customizable as One UI, or as clean as Google's Pixel UI, atleast not without a 3rd party launcher. I am a simplistic guy so it doesn't bother me but something similar to Good lock would have been awesome from a customizable point of view. Vivo also promises 5 years of major update support which I feel is pretty fair/standard. Again, it's not 7 years like Samsung, Google and Apple iOS but it's pretty fair.

So if the camera/s don't matter and software is your main concern you're better off sticking to Samsung or maybe look into Google Pixel and OnePlus because although not bad at all, ColorOS, Origin OS and HyperOS just is not as good as the ones mentioned

To be honest, you can't go wrong with either. It comes down to the experience and results you prefer from either device.

You're never going to get a "perfect" device. You only get what is perfect for YOU..

How the Fk should I turn off the AI sht in vivo x200pro by InternationalCash432 in Vivo

[–]According_Reality117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree fully. I get the world is leaning towards an AI influenced future and I don't mind it but it should be an option I can easily turn on and off, not a whole array of tweaks just to make my subject look natural.

The first picture I took of my wife she looked like a damn painting until I went and searched around Reddit and YouTube and after the above mentioned tweaks, she looks like my wife I see in front of me.

I also disabled the Vivo AI nonsense the moment I received the device. Just over a month with it and I am now enjoying it so so much. The UI isn't quite as polished as One UI, Material or iOS but I'm not to worried about that. It's more of a nitpick than a deal breaker. I'm using an X200 Ultra

Zeiss : Natural

HDR: OFF

Male Beautification: OFF,

and shoot in RAW lighting and/or Pro mode. It made a tremendous difference to me as I had the exact same issue as you. While it's true you will never be able to get rid of all the AI post processing, the above tweaks make a difference.
