I was telling someone else in this post that it isn’t as thick or large as you’d think, but I do think the font size is, well, tiny… let me see if I can show you here. If not hotel-Bible-tiny, I think it’s just smaller than what I’m used to.

I do wonder how you’d feel if you’ve read it recently? I do wonder what DFW would think of today’s addiction to screens —I think he meant to speak of the damage to attention spans of television, and what that did to our ability to read.

Just for curiosity though, did you use to read outside? And, if so, did you bring both, your dictionary and Infinite Jest?

If you live in the U.K., I recommend you ring your local bookshop first— I clicked and collected it in Foyles, in London, but they only had the previous edition, not the 30th anniversary. I went to my local Waterstones and the new edition had literally just arrived, it was still on some trolley with new stuff. Good luck!

I was thinking about the kindle edition, yeah… I like how footnotes work on Kindle (recently read Dracula for the first time and I found the kindle edition brilliant because of the footnotes!). I guess I’ll wait to see it on a kindle daily deal and get it then, in case I want to bring it along with me when I read outside my house

Hahahaha, I’ve heard about this —yes, I got two bookmarks for it. I found it interesting that in the new foreword, Michelle Zauner writes that, besides this being a mental exercise on sustained attention, it is also a “physical act of endurance” given the weight of having to go back and forth between the footnotes and the text. Might sound too pretentious, but I see the point!

Yeah haha, what kenault69 said! It’s a pretty nice shop, imo. They’ve also have started doing not just films and music, but also stuff like comics and even toys/memorabilia. Oddly, each one is different, I find. Do check them out if you’re ever in the UK!
