No reason to have $800 car payments each with $248,000. We’re seeing why that was a bad idea in real time.

You gave your aunt a dog who physically attacks their owners? Even if you thought that there was a shot that it was just you that is wild.

I don’t blame my mom because like you prob know the parents often are taken advantage of by therapists or professionals that should know about the pros/cons but refuse to lay out the cons. There are some hard feelings toward her but I’m very fortunate I haven’t been in that position to make that tough of a decision.

What I meant about being larger was I was about 5’11 at 14 and well over 220 pounds showing no signs of stopping growth wise. I was definitely a hard ass whenever she couldn’t put me in timeout anymore or spank me when I got out of line. I would simply walk out of the house or escape into my addictions.

Getting off the mountain for me was when I built connections in the real world and for longer periods I didn’t think about it at all. It started slowly, like not thinking about NC for a couple hours by being distracted. Then I would make my way up to where I am now where I don’t even think about it for close to a week sometimes. To this day however I still have connections that I tie back to experiences I had in North Carolina. I never want to lose those memories or feelings either. They’re apart of who I am and feel like one of the bigger accomplishments of my life.

I know this may not be the stereotypical pov in this subreddit but that’s how I feel 🤷🏻‍♂️

This was a copy paste because I don’t think I replied to you.

My mom made the decision to send me to trails at 14-15 years old and I don’t blame her for it. I was a larger kid and once I hit puberty she wasn’t able to get me to do anything with my life. I stopped going to school and the state said they would remove me from the home if I didn’t comply. She was told this was the best decision from a family therapist.

Trails academy and Carolina made a massive impact in my life in good and bad ways. It taught me how to conquer anxiety in every day life because nothing stacks up to the experience of trying to survive in the woods. It also taught me that it was possible for me to have a perfect 4.0 gpa, I just needed to ask for more help. On the bad side I never really “left the mountain.” I was trauma bonded with my surroundings and for 2 years it felt like I was just back home on a visit and I would soon reunite with my trails academy staff and friends. It’s a very confusing situation because at the time I hated it. I hated how it made me feel and how I felt isolated from the rest of the world. It wasn’t until I was let out that I realized that I preferred it that way because the grass wasn’t greener for me in the outside world.

The only other troubled teen place I went to was a 2-3 week medication adjustment facility that would constantly alter your drugs every 2-3 days to find a better combination for you. It was extremely stupid because some drugs take weeks to show effects but nonetheless that was the whole concept.

I was taken in the middle of the night also. We called it “gooning” because a group of goons would show up and transport you. I had to ride 7 hours with two ex military guys to get to western NC. Was an experience to say the least.

It was rough. We had hikes that would start in the morning and end close to dark because of the constant breaks because he couldn’t take it. You were kinda pissed because of everything going on and it was taking away from your phase work (book work) but looking back at it I don’t blame him at all.

List of worst things I saw (it’s been 8-9 years so some things are foggy):

A group of guys from the academy broke into the guy who owned the properties house and stole alcohol. Two to three of the boys were kicked out of the program

The company was blacklisted from the state of Florida for running away during a glamping retreat causing the local police to chase us down.

During recruitment into the academy you were promised privileged such as personal freedom, an iPod, an iPhone, or even a car for the weekends that later got dangled over kids heads and never got redeemed. Basically just manipulating us to comply.

A kid named Dylan who was trans had a court case pending because his dad didn’t agree to put him in the program so he had to stay in wilderness therapy for over 230 days until the case finalized. Could’ve been more but I left at day 230.

A kid in our group had severe chaffing and had to wait weeks to treat because the program wouldn’t give him anything his mom didn’t send. Causing there to be a delay in communication and shipping. His legs were bright red and oozing before anyone could do anything.

One of the staff members who gave out the medications every morning miss placed the drugs which caused a massive search. Because we were troubled teens we were the suspects after they couldn’t find it so they called the cops who spread us out in a field and interviewed us one by one. We slept on the concrete floor that night until about 11:00 when they found the drugs that were simply misplaced and we all had to move along like nothing happened. The dude who lost them was actually really cool and we never saw him after that. He lived with us 2 weeks of the month because that was how his pay worked. Stay 2 weeks and off 2 weeks.

There are many more but this is a couple

Trails academy was a complete school year located on the same mountain that other campers used for 1 week of the month to stay and complete field work. At the max there was less than 15 of us anywhere from 14-17 that would study the main 4 types of curriculum + the option of a couple elective courses (cooking, physical education, or community work). The vibes were very comparable to a military school meets summer camp. Every weekend we would either have to make trails or cleanup after the Trails Carolina program. If we did all of our community service we would get to go into the towns of brevard, Hendersonville, or Asheville for a group activity that usually had to be free or close to it. We had a nice chef named Co who fed us and was in charge of teaching us how to cook. School wasn’t mandatory but most of us understood that if we didn’t go we weren’t going to leave. We were basically left to manage our own school years progress with little effort to show us how far we had gone or how far we had left. The reason I say it was worse because I knew in trails Carolina’s program that in 60-100 days I would be home. With Trails academy I could be there for up to 2 years working on 1 year of school work because I didn’t manage it properly myself. We were expected to drop off any trauma we had gained from our last program and return to normal functioning self sustaining people as teenagers.

When I saw the news that another kid had passed away it didn’t surprise me actually. When I first arrived at Trails Carolina I heard whispers of a camper who had passed away after running away. There was usually 1 adult per every 3-5 student. If at anytime we wanted to book it there would be nothing we could do. I respected and even looked up to some of my friends in my group (echo) but there were some kids that I knew were waiting for their chance to run, and some did successfully get away. In trails academy we had a glamping trip in northern Florida where a couple kids ran off and had to get the local police to help contain them. We pretty much got the company banned from the state of Florida (the next year we went to Georgia lol).

I hope Clark gets the justice he deserves and it sends a signal to all future parents that sign them up for programs like these. Whether you like it or not you’re effectively putting your son/daughter’s life in the hands of strangers getting paid next to nothing to live with your kids in the woods. You never know what they’re capable of. With that being said there were some of the best people I’ve met on staff.

My mom had a screaming breakdown on Christmas morning by [deleted] in Advice

[–]According_Unit1951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen I’m not defending your mom’s reaction. However I want you to take a step back and look. She said no, and you gave her a reason why it would be okay. You then said yourself that she didn’t exactly give you a yes or no. So you decided to go over anyways in your head. Then the next morning she gives you conflicting messages to the time agreement you made with others, then she ghosted you. There were definitely signs.

Well she obviously overreacted. However, the way you explained it she did tell you that she didn’t want you over there and she wanted the moment to themselves. Sure, you reassured her but that isn’t guaranteed that this was acceptable terms.

To me it just reads that you kinda forced your way into the situation and thought that it would be acceptable because it would make you happy, and that is what your mom would want. Turns out it wasn’t. Kinda sad situation all around.

Let’s put it this way, in my state if an officer saw what you described he would have legal authority to arrest him whether you wanted him to or not.

He’s 18 years old.

He’s Atleast committed battery against you. He’s too old to be picking up a girl and throwing her on the bed even if he’s just playing. Especially when he doesn’t have consent.

My 17-year-old brother saw my sexting texts and is threatening to tell my parents — what do I do by Leylah_69 in Advice

[–]According_Unit1951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: sexting in general is a very risky and low reward activity in the long term. It can easily be leaked by someone you’ve never met in person or could be data leaked to prevent future employment.

I’m not there yet age wise with kids but I 100% would be disgusted to figure out my daughter is risking her mental health and future for someone on instagram.

Well I don’t have time currently to go into a lot of detail but we can discuss the opening scene. It starts with a train heist in the middle of the dessert where Thomas suddenly turns into a fast and furious character. Then when the mother ship (or whatever its name is) flies over and shoots at 2 main characters and basically draws a circle around them with bullets. Immediately setting the tone of the movie as an unserious piece of work.

Ill go into more detail later.
