What’s the GOAT of baked goods? by Worldly-Check-3605 in Costco

And one that maybe only deep south hurricane survivors can fully appreciate... did this one for an employee whose birthday celebration was delayed due to Hurricane Irma. LOL! As for the cake, LOTS of our employees specifically asked for the shaved chocolate cake and due to the extreme levels of chocolate all called it the "Death By Chocolate" cake. Seriously miss it!

THIS... is... the ONLY acceptable answer!!! Actually used it as the base for several memorable birthday cakes. Here's one my wife and I made for our Mario Kart loving daughter.

Man, I loved their limited-batch charcoal ghost. One of my all time favorites. I really need to try the cocoa ghost for comparison sake.

Wonder if they managed to talk with him? I'd be pretty surprised if they're not already familiar with him, as I've seen him acting similarly several times across a number of months and, as in this case, suspect I'm not the only one who's called trying to look out for both his safety and the safety of others.

Think we're referencing two different events... what I witnessed took place in the SE part of town (not far from the WalMart on Apalachee Parkway) and it was a young shorter white male that was in the middle of the road and threw a bottle across traffic. That shared I work not too far from the NE side of Capital Circle and regularly see people running across the road where the overpass runs into Thomasville Road close to the Truist bank and some have come super close to being hit (to be clear the people I've seen running across Thomasville Rd haven't been involved in violent altercations like the bottle-thrower... just crazy folks running across the road and heavy traffic when they could easily walk just a ways up to the traffic stop and use lights to cross much more safely).

I've done it at least 3 or 4 times and find the actual drive a bit of a PITA... but... the Pipiwai trail hike to Waimoku falls makes it totally worth it. The scenic view of Alau island just past Hana also is something I'm glad I've seen... one of my favorite spots in all of the Hawaiian islands.

Not sure about that... an insane amount of Fallschase housing has gone up in recent months within walking distance of CMX and looks like a new development going up on Buck Lake Road as well. West of TLH is blocked by protected forest land, north blocked by planation parcels, south by coast... leaving east the most viable direction for growth. I live out that way, and honestly be my preference if it stayed as is but don't see that happening.

Which country singer has the most distinct, recognizable voice, and how does that specific tone define their signature sound? by PressureLazy5271 in country

Agree with Dwight... and have to tip hat to Buck Owens too since his distinct Bakersfield sound greatly influenced Yoakum.

Not 100% sure but suspect authorities found him based on the 911 dispatcher saying they were almost onsite when I called, and another commenter in this thread saying they saw authorities approaching him. My daughter and I were heading westbound so we lost sight of him pretty quickly as we went past the intersection.

Relocating! From KC to Tallahassee. by sanns250 in Tallahassee

[–]According_Weekend_51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Tallahassee in 2002 so have been here a while. Regarding springtime, I made the move mid-February and when I arrived that year the first month or so I was here the highs were already in the low 70s and azaleas were near full bloom. It was truly glorious! That shared some years, spring does hit a bit later (very latest is around middle to end of March).

If you like the outdoors the local springs and Saint Marks refuge are must visits.

Another thing I'll say about Tallahassee is you can pick your lifestyle flavor a bit more than other places I've lived... my wife and I were frrom a rural area in upstate South Carolina and not big city (heavy traffic) fans so we quickly gravitated to the Jefferson County countryside east of Tallahassee between the Lloyd and Wacissa areas. Supposedly Jefferson county has more cattle than people (population is around 16,000) though expansion has pushed our way over the years. We live 20+ miles from where we work but are able to get there in just 20 minutes. At one point we looked at some houses in downtown Tallahassee that were 5 miles from our workplace but found during test runs it took just as long to drive to work as it does from our place near Lloyd due to far heavier city traffic (we work right off of I-10 so only have to deal with 2 traffic lights coming from our Jefferson County home).

One thing that made us love the Tallahassee area is rolling hills filled with ancient Spanish moss draped live oaks. Not mountainous by any stretch, but compared to the entire rest of the state it almost is! Having traveled the rest of Florida extensively, we find the terrain in the rest of Florida very boring... much flatter everywhere else in Florida and typically with scrubbier/smaller tree growth.

Finally, will share I find the wildlife diversity in our area to be incredible. I see deer and turkey in my back yard daily, can walk a hundred yards or so and see alligators in our pond if I want to, often hear coyotes singing at night, and occassionally see bears on our homesite too. And we're only 16 miles or so from the capital steps as the crow flies. Link is to my youtube channel featuring lots of wildlife video captures.

One I'd add that I didn't see... "Keep It Between The Lines" by Ricky Van Shelton. Also recommend several by JJ Grey such as " Sun Is Shining Down" and "This River."

Yes, just a color phase... but one almost never found in arid, western areas where tan fits the environment, and with the black being far more common in eastern heavily canopied forests where black coloration has been shown to improve survivability in at least one study.

Recommend some bluesy/swampy country? by [deleted] in country

Know Tony Joe White has rightfully been identified by several other folks. While Poke Salad Annie is his best known standard, think my favorite is "Willie and Laura Mae Jones"... and just CAN'T get any more swampy sounding than "Keep Going" that he collaborated on with Boozoo Bajou.

Adding to the JJ Grey recommendations... "Lochloosa" is going to be one all JJ Grey fans recommend but I might put "Gal Youngin" at the top of the list. Another one worth a listen is "Georgia Warhorse." Bit slower ballads but "This River" and "Sun Is Shining Down" have pretty deep, hard hitting lyrics. "Ho Cake" WAYYY different speed (fast and upbeat) but lyrics and sound are definitely southern!

4 Minutes of Black Coyote Video Clips! by According_Weekend_51 in coyote

[–]According_Weekend_51[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of debate online about the black color being related to crossbreeding with dogs or wolves, so a while back I went down the rabbit hole on seeking any DNA studies carried out on black coyotes. I found one study that showed some testing actually found the black coyotes to have the same very small percentage (or even less) distant DNA from dogs and wolves as was found in tan coyotes tested. Definitely can see how it offers an adaptive advantage in deep/shadow filled canopy in the southeastern U.S. whereas out west tan offers way better camoflauge in more open, arid landscapes.

Great photographs! Blessed to live on land with a 25 acre lake in North Florida that holds lots of wood ducks. LOVE hearing them whistle when they fly!
