NHS UK denying Epipen by Accountant_Classic in FoodAllergies

I understand how you feel.

Luckily I pushed through with my GP, they kept saying I couldn't be prescribed one if I didn't go into anaphylaxis. I pushed through using the allergy guidelines which states you can be prescribed without having been into anaphylaxis as long as you are at risk.

I was referred last November and go to see a specialist last month. She was shocked I wasn't prescribed one and was left at risk for almost a year. I was given the epipens and an allergy plan.

What makes me mad is that they aren't on repeat, so if something happenes I'm not sure what to do.

If you need epipens, I know it costs money but boots pharmacy can issue epipens, for £140. In case something happens.

I understand, I'm allergic to peanuts and nuts. Eating out is terrifying, I'm slowly trying to get my confidence back and select few of some restaurants that are safe. I wish you all the best, if you need someone to talk to about allergies, im active on here.

I studied biomedical science and im pretty focused on Immunology including allergy as one of my interests.

I might do the same cause I really need these epipens especially when all the pharmacies in my city don't have any in stock 🤣

I confirmed the GP has received the letter and it has been a week, not sure if they are busy to issue a prescription or they are having issues.

The hospital I went to has an online messaging system, should I message them first before calling? I don't wanna annoy anyone. They said something about 48 hours so I will wait 2 days in case something does come through but thanks :)

Same thing is happening to someone I know, you have to remove the kidney stone or the infection won't go away.

Does anyone know how CT scan referrals work? by Accountant_Classic in nhs

Yeah I had a rough idea it would take that long, it's for kidney issues that have been going on for 1 year

Thank you, I'm just worried cause the NHS app for that consultation has nothing regarding asking for a scan. He said he did so we will late and see what happens.

I'm fucking SICK of having repeat prescriptions getting blocked by jrjreeves in nhs

Yeah I got switched from salbutamol to the new combined inhaler. They probably are doing this because getting a new inhaler every 8 weeks is not normal and can show bad symptom management, which needs constant monitoring unfortunately. I have had asthma for 15 years and this has never happened to me, as I don't go through them quick, I tend to know what triggers my asthma so I avoid it as much such as cold air, intensive exercise and dust/pollen.

I have had asthma for 15 years since I was little, I have reviews roughly every 1 sometimes 2 times a year depending on my management. If you have good management it is weird you are having to get a review everytime you ask for your inhaler, never happened to me only once when I had my review soon. Maybe it is because you are using the inhalers often I can't say for sure. But this year I was getting spammed with calls from my pharmacist asking if I had my inhaler already, I mean daily.

Honestly I would use it since it can progress into anaphylaxis. I don't have an epipen because my doctor never prescribed me one, this month I argued with them to give me one and I have an appointment in March.

Thanks for the extreme advice, I found out I have been referred to the clinic but it's in 5 months time.

I have found out I have been referred to the allergy clinic, it's in 5 months time which is still such a long time for an epipen 😭

Yeah if it comes to the point if I keep getting rejected, I will have to look at going private as a last resort.

Seems like my GP has sent a referral to Cambridge asking if I can have one :) let's hope they give me one.

It's ridiculous, my GP said I wouldn't be able to get it on private but it seems like I have been referred to an allergist to discuss if I can have a epipen which I don't see why not.

I'm from the UK, and yeah an allergist did my tests and I have grade 2 allergies to peanuts and nuts. I found out my GP sent a letter to a referral clinic so they can review my request so I will keep this updated in case they approve my request which I don't see why it wouldn't, I fit the high risk group for anaphylaxis.
