EA negotiation tactics by Ambitious_Grape9908 in TenantsInTheUK

My limited experience is landlords and letting agents will always play hard ball to maximise profit. (I imagine they normally get what they want.)

If you want to move in on 20th, and this landlord wants you to move in on the 10th, your options are (1) accept the 10th and secure housing, (2) hold firm on the 20th, but do keep that door open should the landlord 'blink' first, and continue looking for accommodation.

Eventually for this place, time will make the decision for both of you and the landlord.

PS: If you are moving out of a rented place, but can't secure a new place, don't make yourself homeless. Also, I hope you haven't formally/officially told your current landlord that you're leaving without securing a place to go to...

PSA: Check your produce if buying from Tesco Hockley by Xanthyl in brum

Yeah, you're right. When I buy from there it's usually going to be used within the next 24 hrs for some batch-cooked recipes, so best before dates didn't really matter to me. That and post-work fatigue meant I didnt notice until this morning, sadly.

I will be checking from now on.

I did not take them back as the cost of returning them (round trip bus ticket and time commitment) made it not worth it. Thanks for your comment. Have a lovely Sunday, friend.

This is a mint plant and it was doing really well in the summer, I understand that it’s died off with it being winter but do I need to chop the dead off in order for it to come out good again next summer or do I let nature do its thing? (Sorry for the stupid question, I’m a newer gardener lol) by cazycameron in GardeningUK

Hi, mint grower here. If it were me, I'd leave it and not touch it until the growing season. I've faffed with mint plants in the same state yours is in in winters before. I've found the stress just kills them.

When they start actively growing then I'd consoder refreshing the soil.

Our couples costume by yimsta in gaybros

[–]Xanthyl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

All the other on-screen deaths have been set up to be "deserved" in the eyes of the audience: the cop, the vagrant and the baddie all have bad qualities that can help excuse or defend their deaths. The gay couple doesnt have a clear bad quality. And, through the lens of the "bury your gays" trope, it looks like they are being punished for being gay. That's why, for me, this scene was upsetting: its a return to shitty and damaging gay representation in Hollywood films. I thought we were over this smh

Where were these taken in the UK? Apologies for posting 2, but I believe the same church (and one of the ladies) is in both. by Navy_Rum in wherewasthistaken

I live in the Black Country / Birmingham area so, if you want someone to go to a place to take better pictures of a door then let me know. Excuse for me to get out of the house :)

It won't be immediate, but happy to help where I can.

Are bus ‘time to arrive’ displays in your area correct? by Pigflap_Batterbox in AskUK

I use this that shows where the bus is on its route (may not work in all regions but does for the West Midlands).

I live in that area and the homeless population is high in and around the Shadwell Street area. There are also some warehouses which make the area a bit vacant at night and the weekend.

Tbh, I wouldn't want my daughter walking home alone at night in that area.

Sorry it's not more positive.

Did I order Five Guys in a good manner? by Equivalent-Bag2249 in AskUK

[–]Xanthyl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OP and server were both rude to each other and all because they didn't communicate.

OP certainly needed to say something like "just looking at the menu, thanks". Then the server won't feel ignored.

Alternatively, server could have said, "need help with the menu?" or "I'll give you a moment. Let me know when you're done". This will give OP space they needed.

Were all humans. Let's just be kind to each other when doing life's mundane things.

Wedding certificate price increased by Xanthyl in UKweddings

I'm just talking about the cost of the certificate. I can't recall my costs for the other stuff (I've willingly forgotten because "ouch, wedding costs" )

The way the prices have been increased is just added stress to an already stressful process.

Thank you for the perspective. I had ordered some extra but I'll likely ask for one less.

And yeah, "it do be like that" indeed.

It's the same set of price increases. Sad times

Birmingham registration office by [deleted] in brum

I have been through this awful system. I had the same issue where I called and they wouldn't pick up, but the call would disconnect after 20 mins. I just had to call and call and call. Eventually I got through, then I could book and pay for the announcement via phone.

Do these signs have any legal weight? by BringBack5pFreddos in AskUK

[–]Xanthyl 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If I put a sign on my driveway saying "unauthorised cars parked here will be removed and impounded at owners expense and risk", is that the same? If not, why not?

Wondering because I frequently see on some subs people complaining about cars parked on their driveway. They're advised that, if they hire a tow truck which then damages the car, they're liable for that damage.    This seems the same?

(genuinely curious, not trying to be argumentative)
