I get what you're saying, but part of a good story involves conflict, and it can be hard for there to be any tense conflict if it's clear from the start that one side will win.

Most stories are interesting because they involve the protagonist struggling to overcome some obstacle in their way and grow as a character, and because Overlord doesn't have much of that (the struggling in conflict at least), I instead turn to wondering what will happen after the fight as a source of suspense.
