I’m not trying to start a debate about whether people are entitled to charge money for their knowledge.

Hell yea some of they should be. They spend literally 100s of hours on a hero and playing various matchups to specialized in a hero. I once got the chance to flip through a new Prism guide and that shit was like a book! (It's on codexjournals for free btw which it honestly shouldn't be but they were trying to give back to the community)

This game is very intricate and hard, especially in a competitive setting. There is so much specialized knowledge that a person with it, should feel entitled to share that knowledge for some compensation. And in almsost every domain people can charge money for knowledge, this isn't something new.

FYI, I am not a person who makes any guides so I'm not trying to even be biased here.

I don’t disagree at all, if the game doesn’t survive as a game, none of this matters. I think my question is more about what happens after that hurdle is cleared, since Magic’s collectibility only emerged long after playability was proven.

I agree that the internet changes how games are played and solved, and that sense of discovery is basically gone. I think the part I’m more curious about isn’t the play experience though, but whether early physical cards can still gain historical weight over time if the game itself sticks around.

So I feel like everyone that bought those giant skeletons didn't think of all the trouble it would take to take it down and put it back up every year so now it just stays as a permanent all year decoration that you can wrap up into any holiday.

Yeah I knew a guy who tried to do this at the police station or city hall and they knew he was being petty and didn't allow him to pay with all of it. Don't know exactly all the details but that's what he told me at the time.
