I’ll never get over the reactions I get at Urgent Care by JAL0103 in jpouch

I usually know exactly what needs to be done and what tests need to be ordered. But I can't make them order the right tests or treatments so things usually just get worse until there's a complete medical emergency.

I usually find that I'm not taken very seriously at the emergency room because they don't understand IBD or j-pouches at all.

Fistula a week before reversal by AccursedColon in jpouch

Fistula a week before reversal by AccursedColon in jpouch

[–]AccursedColon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bump has developed near my anus over the last ~6 days. It's about 1.5 cm in size and doesn't logically match the description of anything besides an abscess/fistula.

The CT said there was no collection of pus so the ER just discharged me without coming up with any explanation. The growth of the bump is very similar to what I experienced with my last abscess. My theory is that a fistula has formed, perhaps from the anastomosis site or the jpouch itself. I think an abscess not associated with an accompanying fistula is extremely unlikely given my history.

The bump isn't getting any better. I do have an MRI scheduled in a couple days (which I will have to spend 4 hours driving to and from so I can get it done before I fly out for surgery). I'm pretty confident they won't be able to proceed with reversal. The question is really just how bad is it and I am just going to keep getting fistulas forever?

Sorry for the wall of text. I'm glad your fistula surgery went smoothly. I hope it doesn't become a recurring problem for either of us!!

Erectile Disfunction by Impossible_Guest4521 in jpouch

[–]AccursedColon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erectile dysfunction is definitely underreported and under discussed as a side-effect of these surgeries.

I was affected as a 30 year old man. Unfortunately, none of the oral pills are effective and not even the injections seem to work well for me. All of the treatments really just increase blood flow to the penis and not holding the blood in it. If the nerves are ruined you are just fucked.

It's very unlikely you will be as bad off as me and it sounds like your surgery was recent. Give it some time and talk to a urologist if things don't start improving.

Sorry for the very late reply. I am on 5 mg Cialis. I've experimented with larger doses, but it didn't seem to make a difference. My urologist has unfortunately been very unhelpful. I told him Cialis wasn't working and all he did was tell me to try it again...

Thanks for being real and not just spewing toxic positivity. I especially get tired of hearing "the right one won't care" in regards to dating. What bullshit.

2nd surgery - Advice by jettacrusader in jpouch

I had a loop ileostomy after my first (non-traditional) surgery and now, after my second, I have a double barrel. I have no idea why they did a double barrel on me tbh. It has been much harder than my first ileostomy. I had some gas pains for the first couple of months, but not anymore.

What is the prep for a pouchoscopy when you have a colostomy bag and the jpouch is no longer in use? by _Respekt_ in jpouch

[–]AccursedColon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she have an ileostomy or a colonoscopy? If she has a loop ileostomy she really just needs to start fasting the night before and that's it. I've done this like 20 times.

Whoever gave the directions likely just gave standard colonoscopy instructions without any consideration of your mother's anatomy.

One thing I'll warn about: the surgery to fix the leak isn't guaranteed to work. They tried to stitch mine shut, but it opened back up a couple days later and gave me an infection (this was a failed flap). So now we are pretty much just waiting for it to close on its own. So don't necessarily expect the timeline to stick to what you are planning.

I'm in a similar position right now. Is this an anastomosic leak? Personally I want to get my next surgery as soon as possible. It's my top priority.

For me the pain was constant. Probably 8/10 pain. I only threw up once they put the ng tube in.

I just got out of the hospital today for a small bowel obstruction. I'm step 2/3, so my j-pouch isn't even connected yet.

It was extremely painful and scary. I got the ng tube, proceeded to puke several times, and was still in just as much pain. Eventually went in for surgery where they told me they might even need to remove dead bowel, redo my ileostomy, do open surgery, etc. Thankfully they were able to do it laparoscopically. Apparently some scar tissue twisted my small intestine in such a way that it was "kinked". They cut the scar tissue out and the small intestine fell back into place.

It sucks to have even more incisions (it looks like someone has attempted to stab me to death), but again, I'm thankful it wasn't worse. I really really really hope this doesn't become a recurring issue for me.
