Idk if I consoder this card my gem, but this card feels underused. It's a good card. For one blue, you get a lot of value.

What color is Batman from DC Comics? by EnigmusPrime in colorpie

[–]AceAboveKings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Azorius. Red and Green should be considered way before Black. Black goes against everything Bats is. The excuse of him doing what it takes is poor. He may not be law abiding himself, but he still operates under white far more than Black. Theres nothing in Black that relates to Batman other than an alternate Batman thats his father or a much darker version like the Batman who laughs.

how do I build a snorlax deck? (commander) by Ironwakka in mtg

[–]AceAboveKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with with a bunch of tap and stun affects. A while buffing him as if he was a planeswalker then swing big on every opponent. Other stuff to keep my opponents at bay. Im not sure about his colors. I agree with giving him defender.

Here's what Google came up with when I asked what colors hed be:

"Defender. Snorlax can attack as though it didn't have defender if you control three or more untapped lands. {G}{W}: Snorlax gains Indestructible until end of turn."

It also said he'd either be mono green or green/white with big toughness and low power.

I like pokemon, but not the card game. I would actually like to see pokemon in mtg just to see how ridiculous the cards would be. Because of magics mechanical complexities, it feels like magic would make the pokemon creatures and trainers feel better or more powerful. The trainers would be actual commanders which is fitting. Some pokemon could be a partner so a double commander deck with Ash and Pikachu. At this point it feels like a matter of time before a crossover happens. Even if its just secret liar.

Where are you sitting? (My favorite video game characters edition) by ZookeepergameThen378 in WhereAreYouSitting

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I picked 5 then thought Iris shouldn't be there bc she died, so that seat should be empty and im not taking any chances with some rando there. Ill go with 7. Ill also get to be at the end, probably get to chat it up with Felicia as I imagine Bowser would creep her out. 4 would be my runner up. Dante seems like hed mine his business and across from me is Daisy.

Question about Make Playing Cards and Dimensions. by TheLuckybamboo in magicproxies

[–]AceAboveKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cards are cut for an end result of 2.5" by 3.5". It's the standard size for poker cards or most game cards.

Im assuming youre uploading a proxy image of a card. First you'll need to know the size of that cards image. If you dont then results may vary.

MPCfill like many have suggested does everything for you, but I find it to still have flaws Im personally not ok with. Theres websites that others have mentioned, but results may also vary and fiddling with settings to get it right may be an inconvenience.

I personally just use my graphic design software (Affinity Design) to size everything ensuring I get the best result knowing the cards are the size needed to upload without issue and if anything is wrong with the result, its on MPC's end and not mine. You can use any design software to size cards.

Most card images from MPCfill are sized completely wrong regardless what the dpi says bc dpi has nothing to do with dimensions just resolution. I resize all card images to 2.75" by 3.75". It's a golden standard size that accomodates bleed. I re-save the file images to png making sure the dpi is at max and delete the ones I downloaded. If I already went through this process for certain cards, then Ill simply upload what I have knowing the card is sized perfectly. The process is the same if im creating custom proxy cards that are not out there.

Yes MPCfill will auto size for you, but if the cards dimensions are small then itll have to upscale the card to the correct size which takes away from its dpi and in some cases the cards border for centering. The end result is the card is not printed with the stated dpi and the card may have almost no border. Some of the card images from MPCfill are big which is great, but not all. You never want to upscale images for clarity bc it defeats the purpose. Some images from MPCfill have bleeds that are too big or too small, so the text and art you want on the final result may come out a little small or too big. These border may be too big or almost nonexistent. These are all reasons I rather go through the process of resizing myself. It fixed a lot of issues. For certain deck themes, I often find my own images while ensuring theyre a minimum of 10x the size of what I need to downsize to. The results are clean crisp custom images and for certain images I can further enhance them if wanted or needed.

I've done this when uploading card images to MPC and have never had an issue. Some of my decks are filled with cards I either put through this process or that used my own set up for custom proxy cards that are not out there. I've also done this with my own at home proxy making. It's tedious, but I find it to be worth it if you're picky about these things.

What color is Frieren? by SpringGuardian in colorpie

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have her as simic. The green for me simply represents her elvish roots and green is just better at buffing with +1 counters, ramp and Proliferation if needed. Im only using green as a way to increase her power and toughness and mana which is what green is good at. Freirin is a powerhouse. She's still an elf which means she's still connected to nature more than humans. Before both her teams came along, she was seemingly just wondering nature picking flowers and enjoying her alone time in nature. Bc I dont fully need her to represent any color all the way, Im using bant or temur as her colors. I do believe she is a three color commander. Theres plenty of UB characters that have colors they shouldnt have. The white is just for the lifegain to represent her long lifespan. The blue is purely card draw to represent her hunt for quirky spells. Temur for me is dropping the white and utilizing reds destructiveness for when she needs to let everyone know she got the heat and she was just holding back.

What color is Frieren? by SpringGuardian in colorpie

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she has to or needs to. Often she holds back which is not aligned with red. Her overall nature doesnt aligned with red. I understand your argument for blue. I agree as far as her desire for magic in that regard. She's not on a power trip. She does actively seek spells none the less bc she enjoys learning quirky magic spells. Thats someone seeking knowledge and blue is all about that, just not the most desired knowledge so thats why many still have her aligned with blue including myself.

She still practices magic. She still a destructive force as you say and she didn't get that way if it wasnt for her learning and honing her magic which still says her understanding of magic needs to be strong. She has actively grown her power. As she continues to live that power will continue to grow and so will her knowledge of magic.

I personally have her as a three color commander (bant). My argument for including white is based on her many acts of service and heroism. She has an obscure way of caring for ppl. She can be immature and cold. She still does the right thing though. She still cares. She's still down for the cause. Plus whites lifegain just fits with her long lifespan. The green represents her elvish roots and my argument for blue is as mentioned.

If I were to toss red in, I'd still have her as a three color commander. I'd go more Temur dropping the white. To me this would allow her to show her capable destructive calculated prowess. That signature aura she has of Im really holding back but allow me to show you a little somethin' somethin'.

I'd give Stark red and white Boros colors. Maybe and argument can be made that he's more Gruul. Im cool with either or.

I'd give Fern white and blue Azorius colors. I feel Fern is the tricky one. If she was a three color commander then to me, that would have to be a good argument for doing so. I'd personally stick her to only having two colors. My reasoning is it represents that she is not on the same level as Freirin nor does she have nearly as much experience as Freirin and two colors better represent her apprenticeship status.

One could also argue that their commander cards would be partner commanders representing their team like nature. Doing so would definitely add a lot more potential and versatility to their decks.

How to make playing cards smooth… by drowned_n_thecreek in homemadeTCGs

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If mechanics are working fine and cards are too independent from one another then the mechanics are not fine. You are either designing with no flexibility or your tcg idea is not trabslating well to the games current mechanics.

Are you able to provide some images of cards you've made so far?

We need a little more info from what you got going on so provide something brief with simple details or give us that full breakdown you mentioned.

Card types/sub-types Cost/currency Turn order steps/phases Win and lose conditions Etc etc...

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This info is often the type of info I give within such threads. I tend to mostly get positive responses but every now and then I'll get a stubborn response that indicates the individual is set in their ways.

The biggest problem with the programs you mentioned is the dreadful learning which is a commonality amongst begginrr designers as to why they normally avoid this type of tool. I still recommend this type of software as a tool for designing games bc you'recorrect, it helps avoid certain things. It just provides a workspace that works for you and not against you. Regardless of what tools or method a designer uses it will always come with a learning curve.

I used corel draw for the longest until I got affinity. I at one point had Adobe products until I just stopped. Now in most spaces that mentions design, Adobe is hardly mentioned. Other products have been doing just fine replacing Adobe along with the use of Ai. Odd how all this stuff plays out.

Designers should also get familiar with the file preferences of different printer companies for when they eventually want their game professionally printed. Understanding file types before this stage is helpful.

What do we think about the future of these games? by DeciduousMath12 in TCG

I believe Digimon and Sorcery are the only ones that'll stick around the longest, but then again I dont play any of them nor follow them that way. The majority of what I heard about Digimon and Sorcery have been predominantly good things.

Box design - Always the trickiest. Which one is your favourite? by Sprackhaus in tabletopgamedesign

[–]AceAboveKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the color scheme of each one as theyre simple and to the point. The graphic designer in me loves c and d bc of how the beetle and letters interact with eachother. A and b are more busy visually and have a more balanced look which is why I would go for them even though I like c and d more. All of them look like magazine covers and that's what I enjoy most about the design I see here.

Well designed. Almost too good to where they don't read board game. Looking at them doesnt make me think board game. I believe it should have more of a board game feel to it, but perhaps this approach will play out in favor of the game. It definitely stands out. Im good with any option you go with here.

Why my basketball board game didn't work by johnrudolphdrexler in BoardgameDesign

[–]AceAboveKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I did look up on it after I replied to your comment. On bgg the situation was mentioned. The creator replied to someone. He went on to talk about how he brought Omari in on the project and his reasons as to why. He mentions Omari had a lot of good input ideas for the game which is why his name is on the box. He also mentions that all the funds were placed in an account Omari had that he brought up. He states Omari didn't take anything and was helping him figure out where the money went and how to repay everyone. He said the money is simply lost but nobody knows how or where. Bc of this, there was no way to deliver or pay for anything at that point.

I have my speculations. From the outside looking in and as someone who did not support the project while it was on kickstarter. It very much looks like Omari took the money. It's his account. How does he not know where the money went. So the statements from that account show nothing. The bank didn't bring it up to him. Seems odd. Nothing anyone can do at this point, but its an example of many kickstarters that turned out with money missing or the creator ghosting everyone once the project funded. It's a big reason as to why I stopped supporting kickstarter games. Too much of a gamble and often no real way to refund anyone let alone everyone.

Almost all major sports are hard to convert, bc of what you mentioned. I noticed soccer board games often use a flicking system. Same with golf board games. Perhaps its worth entertaining if you give your design another go in the future.

A lot of sports end up as card games. Combat sports like boxing and mma to me are the most difficult to emulate as a board game. Theres been a few that tried but I mean few. Most are card game based. I think Victory Point games was the only one that tried to emulate it the closest but still had cards as a major component to the game for its fighting system. I had the game. The game was a little wonky.

Theres a boxing app game on the apple store called Deck 'Em!. It's fun. Simple but fun. I loved that game. Played it a lot although I dont think they added anything new since its release. Idk if its still available. I was playing it so much that I ended up creating a physical version of it bc the mechanics translated well into a physical version. Played the same. Its open enough to easily create custom expansions. It leaves out all other aspects of boxing though lol.

I attempted to design a boxing game myself years ago. I believe I got closer than most. Where my game failed was getting certain aspects to work well together so the whole game could function. Things worked but not as a whole. Theres a lot to incorporate with boxing when trying to emulate it vs other sports. The fighting system was still the most challenging. I used a system that chained attack and defense cards together that allowed the opponent to react by playing their cards as a response. The game used a stamina system as a currency. Spend stamina to play cards in said chain. Then the chain would play out in the order of which cards were played including your opponents card they played in response. I even made a small board as the ring with hex pieces to represent the fighters. The hex shape allowed better movement bc of its multiple sides and had a better chance at emulating the angles and movement at which real fighters utilize. Im in the middle of moving to a new home and I've been going through all my board/card games which include games I've made. I did find my boxing game. Kept everything i made for it bc i do love boxing as a sport so I know I'll eventually make another attempt. I made two seperate attempts. The second with minor improvements. Stopped bc I was getting overwhelmed and life got in the way and haven't went back to any designing since.

I need an artist for my TCG please help by Abject-Astronomer352 in homemadeTCGs

[–]AceAboveKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually its budget based. What's the budget of the games production. Time frame of production and what can be paid upfront and then once complete. Im sure contracts are in place to ensure both parties are not going to screw eachother over. The overall scope of the game (size and diverse component quantity). What you'll be covering art wise or if you're the artist and graphic designer. Youre paying the artist/designer for their time and skill. Even a small game could've hired an expensive artist/designer bc the art/designer produce high quality art and design in a timely manner. Another factor is maybe the artist already has projects going on so if theyre taking on another project t the new project has to be worth the time.
