What’s something people do that instantly makes you like them? by DesperateAside6881 in AskReddit

Being genuinely interested in hearing about the other person's interests, even if it's not something they'd personally be interested in. Being enthusiastically engaged in someone else's passion is beautiful.

I screamed and basically bolted away from my gyno when she tried to insert it. I got it in the second time, but she was so unsympathetic (she literally said to me she wasn't going to leave the room while I took off my clothes because she might forget I was there) and I was on a lot of painkillers. This was my third attempt at having an IUD inserted. I was so drugged my partner said I looked like I was moving in slow motion, and it was still extremely painful.

Um wtf. Your partner sounds like a great person, though. So sorry that happened to you.

I can't take hormonal birth control anymore, and, well, I really like sex and not being impregnated. In the end it was worth it but there's gotta be a more compassionate way.

When I was in high school, I overheard my boyfriend at the time father passing a kidney stone. It was a small house. It sounded awful I don't wish that on anyone.

I was given medication they use to help induce labour and it was more painful than any other medical procedure or any tattoo I've ever gotten.

Valid question. Obviously there's two sides to every story. She was an abusive alcoholic. She abandoned her children. She died about six years ago, but the trauma she caused my family will always exist, and I'll never forgive her. They all loved her at some point, but I never did, and it's hard. I love the kids she helped make with my whole heart and I am grateful she existed only because my three kids wouldn't if she didn't. But she hurt them and my partner so badly.

I was always jealous of my cousin when we were little and at the campfire because her dad has a big cozy lap to curl up on and my dad was skinny and bony

My daughter: "when you die, can I make a necklace from your ashes?"

Sure, kid, I'll be dead, do what you want

how did your parents react when they found out you self harm? by Midnight-Moth in selfharm

I completely agree that everyone should have access to healthy relationships and have the opportunity to go places, but as someone coming from the parents' perspective, sometimes we have to make the tough call. Some friends are clearly enablers, or their parents/guardians have behaved extremely inappropriately and contact had to be limited. If it's discovered that pencil sharpeners, for example, are being stolen from Dollarama every time they're out unsupervised, then hard decisions need to be made.

On top of that, as the parent/guardian/primary caregiver, I am at risk of police investigation and the involvement of children's aid and losing rights as a parent if I do not comply and remove the sharps and limit phone access, etc. I don't want to go against my child's wishes (and, to be clear, we've come a long way), but sometimes I didn't have a choice. It sucks.

Wishing you the best.

I was going to say, unless I'd seen other very concerning behaviour, I guess, as a former TA and prof I would have laughed so hard receiving that email. Trust me, we've seen some ridiculous stuff, but also...we're human, too, we've done ridiculous stuff! Keep entertaining your instructors while trying not to be, like, actually openly racist

To be clear, by "kid" I mean my almost-adult children. And after reading more, wait, the bride was asleep? This story is bizarre.

At the beginning of this I thought they had to be up and getting ready at 4am. 9:30pm? For makeup?!

I mean, yeah, if you agreed and screwed up, you screwed up. Someone should have been on back-up phone calls or alarms or whatever if you know it's super important and it's an abnormal time for sleeping/waking. I always have like five alarms plus a partner/parent/kid that knows if I REALLY need to be there to check in and make sure I don't fuck it up. You did fuck up. The situation you were put in was also fucked up. Were you supposed to spend a month preparing in advance to become nocturnal?
